I'd have to argue that the days of travelling with a voltage step-down converter are behind us. Any modern electronics should support a range of 100V-240V, making the only drawback the actual form factor of the plug. These adapaters however are a lot cheaper, smaller and therefore lighter than the likes of the stepdowns. The two protection circuits, heat and surge are nice, but not a total requirement in my mind.
