Your daily Burj Dubai update

That's tall, isn't it? Though Dubai might not be high up on your vacation list, as we've frequently posted about various unfortunate mishaps travelers have gotten themselves in over there (mostly at the airport and involving poppy-seeded bagels), I think it might be worth it to jet over there once the Burj Dubai opens.
It'll be hands-down the world's tallest skyscraper. Here's a multimedia introduction to the place. First, a cool video with unique footage from the top.
Now, some unbelievable photos here, here, and here. My favorite is this one that seems almost CGI.

see in dubai, they still don't have building codes yet, so it's up to the engineers (basically all of which are italian and american none of which are arab) to build it good which is tough and ridiculous for it to be up to the engineers to do twice the work.nothing like the shit they have in dubai could be made in the USA because it would break so much codes and no one would want to take on the dumb task of building it. no one in america is that dumb, so they use dubai as their playground. they actually call it "the architects playground" because of no strict building codes and no inspectors.

I think it would be fitting if something smashed into it and destroyed it. As they say what goes around.....

This Burj Dubai might be taller... but the Empire State Building in New York is STILL the world's premier skyscraper( King Kong had it right in 1933!!). And certainly a view of the skycrapers of Manhatten... including the very distinctive Art Deco Chrysler building.. which can be seen from the observation deck of the Empire State.. is a lot more impressive than desert sand dunes!!!

Dubai is building this behemoth and becoming a tourist site because they expect to run out of oil in the next decade, therefore they need something to pull in revenue and they're being proactive.
We all need to figure out what we'll do for energy as a global community when we run out (and because of how apparent the environmental dangers of petroleum have become).

It never fails - Americans are so racist that whenever anyone other than they are doing well or able to "out-do" them in any way, they have to be negative. I guess the empire state building wasn't arrogant, or the Sears tower. And I suppose Dubai shouldn't build skyscrapers even though they can be found all around the world. Places like the UAE also provide their citizens with conveniences and even money (yes, cash) that the U.S. government and other so-called western countries don't provide for their citizens. And by the way, US oil does not come mostly from the Middle East...

We should build the tallest building in the world in New York or Chicago. We should also have the largest mall on earth in USA. We should have the longest bridge, the largest dams, the biggest stadium, the tallest observation towers, the largest hotel and casino etc. Why is the USA not building the best anymore? Come on USA, just do it!!! I know you can.

The burj dubai is beautiful. I wish we could have the tallest building in the world built in the USA after this one.

Wow, 98% of you are arrogant, racist and talk the typical American crap that Bush and his dick heads poured in your gullible brains. I am from Europe and live in Dubai for the past 8 years. Nothing that your brainwashing media and president with a grade of C is saying is true. There are NO terrorists here and hopefully it would be kept that way. This place is awesome. You are just jealous because Dubai did something it took New York to do for 200 years. Yes they have money and oil, thats their blessing. You have no right to criticize them for what they want to do with their money. Dubai's wealth comes from tourism (oil is only
