Your daily Burj Dubai update

That's tall, isn't it? Though Dubai might not be high up on your vacation list, as we've frequently posted about various unfortunate mishaps travelers have gotten themselves in over there (mostly at the airport and involving poppy-seeded bagels), I think it might be worth it to jet over there once the Burj Dubai opens.
It'll be hands-down the world's tallest skyscraper. Here's a multimedia introduction to the place. First, a cool video with unique footage from the top.
Now, some unbelievable photos here, here, and here. My favorite is this one that seems almost CGI.

soaring skyscrappers in Dubai? With acres and acres of empty space why these skyscrappers? It doesn't make sense.....spread out and make tropical centers with domes full of green vegetation and water... This is ridiculous.

I would hate to be living near that thing! Traffic plus the possibility of a collapse somewhere down the road.... What happens years down the road when they need to implode the building due to dicay and wear and tear (even if they try it would be far too difficult to maintain such a building!) I wounder what the intent is for that building, stores? just a business (office jobs) or what???

Seems like I read an article a few months ago that stated this thing was being built with profits from oil being bought by us. Guess it's nice to help these folks out

What a monstrosity !. These people remind me of other ethnic groups who gravitate toward shiny baubles and trinkets. It appeals to their tribal mentality.

What progress! I think it's ridiculous. Glad to see all the oil money is going for a good cause. Stupid people.

Dubai. A question. As a Jew, that has visited Israel. Am I and my family welcome in Dubai, and if not, why are Americans promoting these Arab countries that are at war with Israel, but do not allow American's with stamped Passports into their Country.

Bill: as far as I know, you'll be welcome as long as you aren't travelling on an Israeli passport.
I've had friends travel to Israel and then get into Dubai with Israeli passport stamps.
A tip for visitors going to Israel and also going to other ME countries:
If you ask when entering and exiting Israel, they'll stamp a separate piece of paper which can be slipped into your passport - and then slipped out again before entering Arab countries, just to be sure!
Things are changing. We've heard on the Dubai grapevine that Israeli delegates have been entering the UAE for dialogue, as well as businessmen for trade. It's only a matter of time before hopefully it all comes out in the open. I have an Israeli friend who I'd love to have visit me in Dxb.
