Miami is a fantastic vacation locale. It's also a fantastic place to live if you make more than $150k a year and have no children.
I've lived in South Florida for over 25 years and have seen Miami "evolve" (more like devolve). Shallow, vain, insecure people who have little sense of community or social responsibility are the main inhabitants of this so-called paradise. Yes, we have an active night life, but we also have one of the highest rates of new std infections per capita in the country. Yes, we have (some) culture, but we also have the most aggressive/rudest drivers in the nation - 2 years running !
So yes, Miami has a lot more to offer than La Carreta. Tourists and cops shot in the streets, homeless people bludgeoned by our teens "for fun", depressed property values, lower than the national median in pay rates/compensation, failing school systems... I could go on and on.
