One too many: Drunk flight attendant causes six hour flight delay
I've heard of drunk passengers causing problems on flights -- an acquaintance of mine recently wasn't even allowed to board a plane because he had a little too much fun at the airport bar -- but I've never heard of a flight attendant throwing back a few too many. Until now.On Sunday a BMI holiday flight of 140 passengers, set to fly from Aberdeen, Scotland to Faro, Portugal, was delayed for six hours while the crew tried to find a replacement for a 24 year old flight attendant who had shown up to work intoxicated. The flight was scheduled to depart at 9am but was delayed when the attendant's fellow crew members were concerned about her state and called the police. The police arrived at the scene and after a a failed breathalyzer test, arrested the woman.
Drunk flight attendant jokes just seem too easy. I mean, just imagine what the pre-takeoff security demonstration would have been like; those airplane seat belts are complicated enough when you're sober. But still, it seems that maybe the woman had just a little too much fun the night before, and instead of a hungover day serving snacks, now she has to deal with the police. Bad luck.

nurses do that, make more money, and deserve a heck of a lot more credit than trolley dollies

I've stayed at european hotels where flight crews stay and it's disgusting the way they behave..mostly the european crew, NOT americans. It's scary that they are the ones responsible for passenger safety..they all look and act so freaking stupid

Most of the drunk/party gals I've seen work for the Mid East airlines (UAE). Girls from all over Europe and the UK who live and work in those countries for the airlines. It's as though as soon as they left home, they lost their minds. Embarassing for their native countries and an embarassment to themselves, as well as the airlines they work for. The Mid East has some pretty strict rules regarding air hostesses, which seem to be totally ignored. I'm no prude, but what I've seen of the way they act in hotels, is disgraceful. They give them their own floors because the hotels know how much noise and DAMAGE they will do in their drunken stupors.

To all the F/A's: It seems a bunch of you have some bad attitudes and are using this post to vent. Good for you. I would much rather have you vent here than on a long flight. When I fly I am constantly amazed at the behavior of some of the passangers. They leave their manners and courtesy at the door and turn into boors (rude or insensitive person). They make demands they would never make in other circumstances. Only once in all my flying years have I come across a boorish F/A and she was a dilly. I have great respect for all F/A's and feel the ones who reported the F/A who was drunk were perfectly right to do so. Their jobs and lives were also at stake.

I think most flight attendants do their job well but having been in the business, it's what you (as the passenger) don't see that's the problem.

I'm sure you are right but if that's the case why isn't something being done about it?

The reason we have flight attendants on airplanes is not to serve peanuts and beverages. We have them on board to assist passengers in the event of emergencies. The real reason there are flight attendants is for "safety".
It upsets me that this woman came to work drunk at 9:00 a.m. (or any other time). Its no laughing matter.
A couple of years ago, two airline pilots were actually sent to prison for showing up for work intoxicated.
This woman should receive a punishment she'll never forget for endangering the passengers. I'm not in favor of putting her in prison, but I wouldn't be against the kind of thing they do in Singapore...cane her bare butt hard.

Last November, a British Airways flight from Manchester to New York was cancelled after claims that cabin crew staff were drunk shortly before take-off.
Police received an anonymous phone call claiming that staff were partying at a hotel at 4.15am, just hours before the 10am flight.

There goes Ann again.
Ann, honestly you should probably find another job before your employer becomes privvy to your attitude.
It's all a matter of time before you have a "meltdown" and then the choice will no longer be yours
