'Humiliated' passenger sues Continental Airlines
Carolyn "Lynne" Meadow, the artistic director of the Manhattan Theater Club, filed a lawsuit against Continental Airlines yesterday, saying a member of the company's flight crew humiliated her by turning her over to the FBI.The incident happened last August on a flight from Rome to New York, according to the New York Sun.
The Sun reports the story today in a long-winded, blow-by-blow account. Here's a summary: Meadow angered one flight attendant by asking him to be quiet while she slept, she then proceeded to monopolize other flight attendants' time with various requests, and she finally broke an armrest monitor (accidentally, she claimed), incurring the wrath of the flight attendant she initially shushed.
Even that's a little long-winded.
Anyway, the flight attendant accused her of "destroying" airplane property and had the Feds waiting for her when the plane touched down in New York.
She is suing the airline for emotional distress, humiliation and for providing her with faulty flight equipment, the Sun reports.
Continental is not commenting on the matter.

Someone who really thinks they are important

This loud mouh fool reminds me of the 350 lb. fish smelling pig that I was unfortunate enough to have to sit by on a flight last year. She was foul, drunk and loud. Actually yelling at anyone who looked at her. Do all of these idiots belong to the same club.???

Clearly somewhere along the line she has heard of ear plugs!

It's interesting, in reading the comments, that it seems most people did not click on the link to the original New York Sun story. It presents the case very differently than the Jeffrey White story above, which is very biased against the passenger. My first thought, when reading the story above, was "b*tch"...but then after reading the original story (just click on the link above) I totally changed my mind about who was acting out of line. Notice that the Feds released her without filing any charges.
I don't agree with Ms. Meadow filing a lawsuit, but I've been on flights with a few of these over-empowered "I am God" flight attendants, and I totally agree with her sentiments about the situation.
And no...MOST flight attendants do not cop an attitude, but this Chris guy sounds like a real arse.

Yup, I think he's just gotten off duty and waiting to leave, this was taken at 4:46pm; his shift maybe ended at 4:30 or even 4 but he stayed long enough talk to coworkers/doing reports to make his shuttle/ride. Or waiting for a ride.
Not like that be the best plase to nap anyway if you're on duty. Speaking as a former private security person (not TSA), if someone wanted to take a brief nap that bad, they already know where to go: stairwells no one uses, heck, even a bathroom stall would be better and quieter.
Kinda creeps me out though that the camera guy was so close (even if some kind of zoom was used). I don't know where the TSA people are supposed to be at that Amtrak station. Camera guy didn't pan the whole area, maybe TSA doesn't even guard the front enttrance/exits, which appears to be where he's WAITING, off duty.

Ignore that above. Hit wrong button and it copied something else. I'd said good stuff though...but now it's gone. Nevermind.
I'm still on the side of the flight attendant even after reading the other article. Even that one kinda sounds like she feels entitled.

Karen,
I started reading your comments, and then realized that the story you were commenting on was much more interesting than this one! You've got me intrigued; I'd like to read the story you commented on. Do you have a web address where I could find it?

I REALLY MISS THOSE TIMES WHEN THE CUSTOMER WAS ALWAYS RIGHT AND WE WERE TREATED WELL, LATELY IS TOO MUCH ABUSE FROM THOSE CREWS, THEY ARE RUDE MOST OF THE TIME, I BELIEVE THAT SINCE 9/11 THE FACT THAT THEY MAY SUSPECT ABOUT PEOPLE MADE THAT POWER GOES TO THEIR HEAD
Marti Jul 20th 2008 12:25AM
"The Customer is Always Right" is the stupidest and most ridiculous comment I have seen posted yet!
If you really think you are always right then I think that you must think that the world before 9/11 was perfect and flawless.
The customer is always right is something completely made up to shmooze over a customer who is irate and making a jackass out of him or herself.
Please and Thank you and Excuse me go a long way!

I don't claim to be a frequent flyer, but when I do fly, I apply the same "rules" to interaction with airline employees as I do to interaction with those in other service occupations. (And I've been there, done that and have several t-shirts.)
That is, you draw more flies (no insult intended) with honey than you do with vinegar. I presume paying for my ticket purchased me the right to the seat, not to royal treatment. You'd be surprised how well you can be treated if you just speak politely and say "please" and "thank you."

The people who complain the most about airlines are those who never reached the royalty status and want someone at the beconed call. If you want to sleep on an airplane, bring your sleep shades and ear plugs. Don't expect the entire plane to bow down to you. I have flown extensively and realize the flight attendants are there primarily for passanger safety. Wouldn't bother me if EVERYTHING was self service and flight attendants were there only to help the handicapped.

I usually fly to London and have never had a problem with anyone. However, I think alot of the frustration comes from cheap flights with people crammed in like cattle. This is the only way most people, including myself, can afford to fly. I've always found being nice brings niceness in return.

I believe the man said "...a nation of whiners". Right Crystal ??
leolapetee Jul 18th 2008 10:12AM
I hope continental gets put out of business and all of their flight attendants end up in extreme poverty.
juzme Jul 18th 2008 10:14AM
It's to easy to sue. People don't want to work for their money anymore....get rich quick!
albo Jul 18th 2008 10:20AM
I WISH I DIDN'T NEED TO SAY THIS BUT ALL THOSE WRITERS OF AOL ARE ALWAYS BIAS AND CHANGING THE FACTS OF THE STORIES THEY WRITE ABOUT, IT'S REALLY CONCERNING CAUSE WE TRUST IN THEIR INFORMATION, BUT IT LOOKS TO ME THAT THEY ONLY WRITE WHEN THEY ARE PAID FROM ONE OF THE PARTS....VERY SAD , THE SAME WITH POLITICS, TOO MUCH BIAS, NOT OBJECTIVE INFORMATION ANY MORE...SO WE HAVE LOST THE TRUSTING FACTOR....WHEN YOU READ A NEWS..
Mark Jul 18th 2008 10:20AM
I've flown about 100 times over the past few years and I've NEVER run across a rude flight attendent, not one time on any of the airlines I use.
Seems to me that these people who are constantly complaining about rude service....bring it on themselves.
RacerX Jul 18th 2008 1:04PM
Seems to me that you just haven't been on a flight with a rude FA. They do exist.
Miguel Jul 20th 2008 12:21AM
Exactly, Mark. I was a flight attendant for this airline for 9 years and flight attendants are very nice as so was I. The problem starts when customers are needy and think that they own the airplane and throw fits about little things. You would be surprise at what people would complain about.
When someone was rude and tried to act like I was their servant I would get an attitude right back..........FOR ALL OF YOU A** HOLES out there that think your so better GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!
