Eiffel tower to undergo $267 million makeover
The days of standing in line to enter the Eiffel Tower may be numbered as a $267 million, 10-year plan has been unveiled that will give better and easier access to visitors. Built in 1889, the Eiffel Tower was designed for 500,000 people, today the structure attracts about 7 million visitors a year.At some point in the future you will be able to reserve a 30-minute slot online, the restaurant will be bigger and cheaper, and there will be a new champagne bar on the third floor. With these changes, they hope to attract not only a larger tourist crowd but also Parisians, and of course increase the Tower's profit levels too.
Lines to visit tourist hotspots are a major annoyance these days so it's cool that steps are being taken to cut line-time. The Alhambra and the Tower of London are some of the other places that have done a great job giving people the option of pre-booking their visit online.

like their culture, it is rusting and not worth saving. if you knew your history as to why the tower was built to begin with, you'd let it die a graceful death.

if u think the french government is retarded enough to let wat most of the world thinks of when they hear the words "Paris, France" then u need a huge reality check. Plus if they're willing to spend 267 million on it, they must be making a lot more off it. The tower stays. Plus, it's nice to look at.

God why waste the cash the damn thing is freaking ugly as all sin. I've climbed the thing not impressed.
But then again it's the French the folks who have no clue what a good shower and deoroderent is. The same folks that designed the butt ugly Le Car and the "Classic" Renault 5 Escargo. you know the funky snail shaped car that most folks know from "The Spy who loved me.? chase scene after the hot chick shoots the bad guy at the pool with a cross bow.

Good move on the part of the French to rework the signature landmark of France. I visited Paris about 7-8 times but never scaled the tower. May be in 10 years, I will the work is completed.

"Jim" -- Given the numerous, more recent generations of French who have apparently forgotten all about WWI, WWII, and the mess French missionaries and the French Government left for an overly zealous (in hindsight) America to (unsuccessfully) clean-up in Viet Nam, I remind you that it was the French who aided America in her defeat of Britain in order to gain Independence in the first place! The ancestors of today's French people deserve, at least, that recognition. It's unfortunate that their modern day extreme liberalism/socialism has widened the gap with America and her historic ideology.

Are people here drunk? I can't believe I'm still reading the stupid ignorant blatherings of the crowd who can only recite the same old dumb line about the French capitulating in WWII and how we came to the rescue. Pointless, and ignorant. Good ol' "Jim" says, "how many wars do we have to bail them out of, anyway?" How long do idiots like him think you can use foolish lines like that? Does he actually think he's being clever? Insightful? Like hell. Just a moron. And the idea that France is a "socialist" country? Also idiotic. It's a capitalist economy. People are making money. They need cheap labor, same as us. They get immigrants who KNOW there's money to be made, same as us. All this BS about it being socialist is also a load of worthless rot that boneheads spew just so they can have some like-minded imbecile say "I hear that, buddeh" and high-five them.

Americans forget that without the French, we would still be under BRITISH rule, since they stopped the British from escaping after burning Washington, and sunk their ships!

Viva Le France! From where I'm sitting the tower is an awesome sight to see, just like our own Empire State Building. Hell, it's only money, well spent.
