Photo of the day (7/3/08)

Flickr contributor Sgorainick submitted this photo for Gadling's photo of the day. "Volcanos in the Mist" was taken in Indonesia. You can still see some of the sulfur belching from Mount Bromo in the distance. I'm sure it didn't smell good, but who wouldn't put up with a little sulfur smell to get a shot like this?
Way to go Sgorainick!

wow, that's a really gorgeous shot! Indonesia too. Home of 129 active volcanoes. That's Mount Semeru in the background. National Geographic has a story about Indonesian volcanoes, and the millions of people who live right next to them:

I've been up Mt Semeru. The top is quite high for a volcano and there's the lake near the top, secluded spot to chill out. Every morning at nine it erupts toxic gas near the top - quite a view from afar. No need to bring climbing gear, only camp gear will do. The path is very well defined. Hire a guide from the ranger office.
The most dangerous part of it all is the jeep ride to the foot of the mountain.
