Another day, another drunken airline passenger
I wonder if the reason that everyone seems to be getting drunk on airlines lately is because the stress level is so high. Perhaps it's a means to deal with the stress of having no leg room or no meal during an excruciatingly long flight. Jeff posted an article about an unruly passenger getting drunk, throwing ice and feeling up flight attendants last week, while the week prior another woman lit a cigarette, punched one of the crew and forced the aircraft to divert to Dallas. This week, a Drexel student named Taylor Kircher flying transatlantic on British Airways drank an entire bottle of his duty free vodka before going on a drunken tirade through the aircraft. In the process of his debauch, the student spat on two flight attendants, broke a jump seat and was caught masturbating through his clothing before he had to be physically restrained with handcuffs.
Kircher even went so far as to threaten to "blow the plane up" if they didn't free him of his restraints, which, I believe is quite illegal.
Authorities detained the student on arrival in New York's JFK where they will hopefully press charges and never let him fly again.

Who did this guy think he was? Paris Hilton? George Bush's daughters? You can't act that way on a plane unless you're famous, like Russel Crow!

That was pretty smart to give anyone a whole bottle
of Boooze ? You are part of the problem . Dum & Dumer . A few is one thing but a whole bottle !

He purchased it at a store IN the sirport (Duty Free) store - which he then carried on -
Anita Jul 7th 2008 9:31AM
Hey, Den! Nobody gave the guy the booze. If you read it right, it says it was his 'duty free', which he was allowed to carry on, I guess.
pk franklin Jul 7th 2008 9:55AM
read, they did not give it to him, He bought it at duty free, and no doubt was sneaking drinks, as it is illegal to drink from any source other than what is served by the airline.Being a frequent flyer for years prior to retirement, I say, stop selling the stuff, except long haul, and stop airport bars from opening before 1100am.

on international flights you can purchase a small selection of duty free booze jewerly and other crap. he might have bought it in the terminal. either way the guy is a crack pot

you spelled *dumb, and *dumber wrong. if you're going to insult people at least use proper grammar.
Crisyteena Jul 7th 2008 1:45PM
Hey noyb,
He misspelled the words. He didn't use improper grammar. If you want to make fun of someone at least know what you're talking about.

Idiot. Airlines do not dispense full bottles of vodka. He bought in at a duty free shop and brought it on the plane.

Fellow stews, let me help our hapless and misguided blogger "Den" (who obviously doesn't fly much if at all). The problem does not fall on the lap of the Flight Attendants, as this poor sod had purchased his bottle of spirits in what is commonly known in traveling circles as the "Duty Free" store which (for your enlightenment) are shops at the international departure areas that sell spirits, cigarettes, chocolate, the list goes on. These "purchases" are then delivered to the airplane and given to the passenger to stow with their other worldly goods they've brought with them. Not to be consumed like so much meade at a drunken Viking bash. Not so much. Hope this helps.

WAKE UP!!!!!!!
michele Jul 7th 2008 8:25AM
Glad I wasn't flying that day.
Muffie Jul 7th 2008 8:40AM
If you read the article it clearly states he drank duty free vodka. that means he purchased it at the airport and was not served it by the airline. He most likely drank it in the airport then boarded the plane while drunk.

We had a pax drinking DF whiskey, last week on a flight to AMS. We simply took it away, and held it til he disembarked. It doesn't always go that well. For those not in the business...it IS illegal to drink your own booze, while onboard a commercial flight. And, yes, it IS illegal to threaten the well being of passengers, crew or aircraft. It's even illegal to "interfere with the duties of a crewmember". YES, we are there to run the show. And when the seat-belt signs are lighted, guess what that means!

Legalize marijuana! Stoned passengers would simply fall asleep.
Scott Jul 7th 2008 12:40PM
I agree with you there bro, nothing wrong with a nice relaxing doobie instead of getting all bent out of shape on alcohol cripes sake.
A-M Barker Jul 7th 2008 8:45AM
ok-didn't anyone notice this moronic behavior escalating? How 'bout the person in the next seat? Chugging on an entire bottle of booze - what did they expect would happen, or not?
Bpers2001 Jul 7th 2008 9:35AM
Hmm, masturbating through one's trousers simply does not work - eventually, you're gonna have to let it out to finish the job. Besides, it's a lot messier, for you, if you don't. What was this guy thinking? Personally, I figure, that's gonna be more embarrassing for this guy, then probably the whole boozing issue.
Bill Jul 7th 2008 9:42AM
You do indeed need a sedative these day's or take up a valium or simular medication all this due to the terrorists!
DOC Jul 7th 2008 10:01AM
There is no one to blame but this guy. send him to jail. Thats where you go when you break the law. Drunk and disorderly is a crime.
