Craig- I definitely agree with you about reading books that are written directly in the language of choice, but there is something to be said for reading a book that you have already read in your own language... makes following the story line a bit easier.

"Le Petit Nicolas" is great! I used to read that in high school when I started taking French. And thanks for the rest of the tips!
