Don't feel too bad. I got on a train in Rome for Lucerne, but it wasn't going to Lucerne, it went to Berne.
Once leaving Manhattan for LaGuardia, (or was it Kennedy?) I got on a subway heading for Coney Island by mistake. Luckily, I figured out the error and some folks told me what to do to at least get to a place where I could take a taxi. I did miss the flight to Cleveland, but managed to get on the next flight after at no extra charge. Those were the days!
I'm glad you made it with your luggage.
