Photo of the Day (06/16/08)

What a great shot of San Francisco! The colors!
Except, of course, that it is Lisbon, Portugal, as shot by t3mujin. Seriously though, tell me this doesn't look like San Francisco when you first glance at it? It is amazing how many similarities there are between Portugal and California...the weather, the coastline, the lifestyle, the bridge. If Portugal had Hollywood and Chinatown, it would practically be the same place. Just kidding.

Beautiful picture of one of the ex-libris of my hometown.
Indeed, Ponte 25 de Abril was modelled after the Golden Gate Bridge, all the way to the colour. It's been altered since to allow for trains to cross it.
I recommend to anyone visiting Lisbon to catch the boat at either Cais do Sodré or Belém piers and enjoy a ride to the south bank, with spectacular views.

Along with earthquakes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1755_Lisbon_earthquake) and trams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carris) Lisbon clearly is the San Francisco of Europe or, on the other way, SF is missing a castle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_of_S%C3%A3o_Jorge) to be the Lisbon of the New World. :)
