Being in Berlin: The 12 most beautiful cities in the world (according to Die Welt)
Walking along the last remaining piece of the Berlin Wall on Friday, I was a little disturbed by this billboard advertising Die Welt city guides. I had to take a picture of it.
It says: "Visit the 12 most beautiful cities in the world."
It lists them:
- Barcelona
- Berlin
- Rome
- Paris
- Amsterdam
- Munich
- Venice
- London
- Hamburg
- New York
- Vienna
- Milan
I realize it's just stupid ad for city guides, but I found it a little odd that: A) All, but one of the most beautiful cities (New York) are supposed to be in Europe, and B) Four of these cities are German-speaking; three are in Germany. Call me overly sensitive, but that's a cocky statement if I have ever seen one.
What about Sydney, Cape Town, San Francisco, or Hong Kong, to name a few?

yeah, that's funny because I live in San Francisco and there are quite a number of German tourists all year round. Rather Euro-centric, yeah.

Some of the most beautiful cities I've seen have been in Germany, but I don't think I've give them 3 of my top 10 spots. And aside from that, Berlin isn't a very "Beautiful" city anyways... beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that... but still, and Hamburg, WTF?!?!?

Milan?! There's not a lot to see there... Florence is *a lot* more beautiful!

I agree. There is no explanation whatsoever for Hamburg and Milan to be on this list.

In my opinion Berlin is certainly not one of the most beautiful cities in the world or even in Germany. I like Lubeck.
I love Rome, Edinburgh and San Francisco but I have to admit to a European bias too as I'm Scottish and have only been outside Europe once to California.

Has anyone in Germany seen a picture of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil? That is undoubtedly the most beautiful city in the world. Also, Santiago, Chile, San Francisco, USA, Seattle, USA, Chicago, USA, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Hong Kong, China, Dubai, UAE, and Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala.
