I've heard that taking Pepto daily will help reduce food-borne illnesses. If you are going somewhere for an extended period or where healthcare access is poor I would suggest getting your doctor to write you a prescription for a broad-spectrum antibiotic such as Cipro. Make sure they brief you on how to take it and what symptoms to take it one. Immodium is a big help to for persistent diarrhea to help prevent dehydration and if you have no choice but to move.
