Photo of the Day (04.15.2008)

I picked this photo by Kouiskas as the photo of the day because it looks almost too good be real, you know? Everything is perfect, from the colours of the earth to the fluffiness of the clouds. Postcard-perfect photos are usually fairly elusive, down to nothing more than the stroke of luck that you happened to visit a site on the ideal day. And it's why we bring our cameras everywhere -- we're afraid of missing that perfect photo opportunity.

Actually, it *is* too good to be real. This one's not marked as such, but most of kouiskas' pictures are HDR, combining multiple exposures to get a dynamic range beyond what the human eye can see. All the kids are doing it on flickr, though many (photographers) would say the effect is overused and cheesy.

Beautiful picture of a great place! I walked around this rock years ago. It took me three hours and it was hot, but it was worth every step! I did NOT climb it (some tourists do) because it is sacred to the aborigines and they would prefer that you didn't. I try to respect the customs of the local inhabitants wherever I travel.
