Noisiest places in the world
The noisiest city I have been to is Athens--at least what I remember. I'm basing this on a fuzzy memory of an experience crammed onto a bus thinking that the people around me were angry, bit finally decided that they were having a chat and had to raise their voices to be heard above the din of the traffic. That was one bustling place, and I've lived in New Delhi.
There's an article in the New York Times about how noisy Cairo is these days. It's so noisy with horn honking and teaming people, as a matter of fact, that it's like living in a factory. If you know anyone who has worked around machinery for a lifetime, think about how often the word "WHAT?!" comes up. Just a tad.
Where else has noise? I found a Web site, "hear-it " that cites Spain as the country with the most noise and the second loudest country is Japan.
According to The Hearing Journal, San Francisco is the loudest city in the United States beating out New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The quietest city is Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

interesting. I would have thought it was New York City, typical I know. But then again, I have never been to San Francisco.

I always thought it was Philly. Between the people shouting to each other and their loud junky cars,plus the symphony of sirens every day,not to mention other random annoyances,I could have sworn that it was here;

I think you are all wrong. It has to be Paradise, Ca. Motorcycles come into town from other Cities for 3 to 4 days every week-end and roam the town which keeps everyone who lives here, awake all night.

Absolutely SF with all the construction and the stupid trucks and even vans that make that annoying beeping sound when they back up. Add to that the ADA requirements for beeping stoplights, and a multitude of uneccessary noise pollution make San Francisco a place of depreciating livability. Too bad.

Too bad you haven't lived in 'Disgusta' GA, where the river smells like one giant sewer on a good day. The only time there is some life in this poor godforsaken city is in April when a bunch of duds hit white balls around a green field.
Not to forget the freaking railway lines crisscrossing regular streets and creating massive traffic backups.

The noisiest place to live in the world will soon be Okaloosa County, Florida. The new F-35 training wing will make this place intolerable with 240,000 runway operations annually distributed amongst 3 airfields with the loudest aircraft ever made.

Atlanta airport-and inside more than out. City of Atlanta; Airport Authority and TSA PSAs are nonstop and overlapping, with long windups which trumpet 'no, WE are in charge here." Delta overcomplicates boarding with redundant and mostly unneeded announcements. Carts blare by. CNN thunders from tightly spaced tvs. Touts shout out. Pages pound the ears. Big brotherly bombast blasts from overhead. Often three announcements play at the same time, a cachophony of mostly needless noise which other airports do well without.
