"Considering the Olympic Torch Relay symbolizes world love or some such thing, it's ironic that it's the target. Actually, the flame means that people should put down their arms in a sacred truce."
Which is exactly why the protesters are targeting it - it's a sick joke that China can simultaneously parade the flame around the world while killing Tibetans in the streets. The IOC never should have approved the Beijing games - after all, even before this current round of violence, the Chinese government still had yet to acknowledge the mass slaughter of unarmed students in Tiananmen Square - and now they are reaping the results.
I love the Olympics and everything they are supposed to represent, which is exactly why I won't have anything to do with these games. The protesters aren't spoiling anything - it's already spoiled.
(At least, that's how I see it. Stepping off soapbox now...)
