They should consider a trip to Costa Rica as well. The place is a paradise and if they ever decided to invest in a place it wouldn't cost anywhere near as much as SLO.
There is a resort called Maquengue where they can enjoy a nice horseback ride through the jungle and garden areas or they can take the mile and a half hike down the beautiful gorge to an incredible waterfall.
The pool at the base of the waterfall is so clear you can see the bottom at 16' with no haze. The experience is breathtaking.
