The feeling of security. As much as the idea appeals to me and as much as I hate being stuck in a cube all day, it's the feeling of the steady job track, the stable income and just the overall feeling of stability in general that stops me from actually pursuing something like that.
I love traveling. I love going new places and meeting new people. I love experiencing new things. And I'm positive I'd love doing something like this.
But I'm absolutely terrified of coming home after that and risking not having a career.

People begin great careers at all stages of their lives. Nothing is ever guaranteed but living a nomadic kind of lifestyle opens up so many more possibilities and opportunities than steady 9-5's.

Brian, I completely agree. It's tough to break away from this false sense of security society presses with having a steady "career"
I've been thinking more and more how most of us are modern day indentured servants

Agreed PJ. My boyfriend decided to try to break out of the cycle, something we have both been feeling for a long time. We moved back east from California and boat a 30 foot sailboat that we are fixing up. Come spring we hope to travel down to the Caribbean for 8 months. We have done are homework and are planning to do it on a smaller budget. I believe people are beginning to realize there are other ways to live. At least we can only hope. Great post Tynan! I think fear stops too many people. We only have one life. See everything, be anything, just live.
We are blogging about our current adventures and will be about our up coming sailing trip. Come check us out!

We are planning to travel in the Fall (after hurricane season), not Spring. I just saw that typo and had to correct it! :)
