My parents bought me an introductory flying lesson for my birthday last year- probably on of the funnest hours I have had in a long time!
On a bit of a side note, around $6000 is quite good value thanks to the weak dollar- £3000 compared the £6000 you'd probably have to pay here in the UK. I guess that is why quite a lot of Europeans go to places like Arizona, Florida etc to do their flight training (that combined with the good all year round weather).
