You are so right...when I was traveling in Mexico my companion and I had so many problems until we figuered somethings out....like the dirty car for one. A couple of times I caught people checking out the car but as soon as I stopped washing it people didn't even glance at it. Police would stop my companion (He's Chicano) and ask for money to let him go but if I drove (I'mWhite) we would never get pulled over. I look total "gringo" so they probably thought I didn't speak spanish and didn't want to deal with it. One thing to warn people about are the gas stations....make sure they put in what they say they are charging you for and check the level of gas to make sure it was filled up. Some places will say they filled it when they didn't...or try to charge you extra...Had both of those happen a couple of times.
