Baby drops through toilet hole of train and lives
Here's a story that tops the version of the parent who unwittingly sets a baby strapped in a car seat carrier on top of the car and drives off. That can add a bit of a nightmare to any vacation. It also beats my story of how I dropped my car keys into a toilet --or any of the stories I've heard of people accidentally dropping items down a latrine. These are popular Peace Corps tales. It also tops my version of having a baby in New Delhi, India by a long shot--a very long shot, and I took a train ride to Pushcar Pushkar when I was eight months pregnant.
This past Tuesday, a woman headed off the the toilet on a train in India and gave birth without planning to at that particular moment. Unfortunately, she passed out during the activity. When she came to, the baby had fallen through the open hole of the toilet onto the tracks. That was a big problem, made bigger because the train was moving. Her relatives pulled the emergency brake to stop the train.
The baby, eight to ten weeks premature, was later found in the middle of the tracks less than two hours later. She was alive and taken to a hospital. The prognosis isn't great, according to the doctor, but medical care in India can be excellent, so hopefully the baby will pull though.
This story will probably forever top the stories of "the most exciting thing that happened to you when you were on a trip," regardless of who you are: the mother, the relatives, the train workers, the other passengers or the baby. My son already surprises people when he tells them he was born in India. I'm glad our version of his birth is more mundane than this one. This baby's story is really a miracle with a capital M. The article about the baby born on the train toilet is a true miracle. I hope the mother and child be okay. Everything happens for a reason. I hope this mother realizes this child is a blessing and is here by the grace of God! I hope yhe baby has a long and healthy life.

Jaime, how come you don't know how to spell, "Pushkar"? (the location in India you said you have been to) As I was scanning your story about a train and I saw the word, "Pushcar" (the way you wrote it), I was thinking of one of those little push cars that goes on the train tracks where you push up and down on a see-saw kind of devise to propel it.

It's a good thing she took a train and not a plane!

My question is why are dumping sewage along the tracks? What's up with that?
I am happy to know the baby survived...

Other countries do not have the protections that we take for granted. I experienced the same type commode in Russia. On a mission trip in another country, I was told to wash an empty paint container in a nearby stream. In the same country at a resort area, the walkway was so dark and slippery with unexpected steps that I chose not to tread for fear of falling.

Why are they dumping waste materials on the train tracks? That is gross. And sick. Well, that baby had angels watching over him, for sure.

My question is why everyone is so surprised to learn you had a baby in India? Would their response be the same if it had been France? Just a question from an Indian-American who always worries that she will drop something down those toilets on the Rajdhani Express.

I'm not saying I don't believe this story...but where's the umbilical cord? Did it become detached, along with the placenta, from the woman? or what happened?
blayzenfaith Mar 1st 2008 10:07AM
You know what I am with you on that I know that the placenta had to be still there because it takes a minute to come out and for the train to be still moving did the baby even hit the tracks they left out so many details to make this story believable. Buuuutttttt in the event that it is true I hope the baby is named Miracle because that is exactly what it was.........
Voice of Reason Mar 1st 2008 2:30PM
Why that info was conviently left out of the story. No entertainment value. You'll have to ask the author of the article that question.
Chrissy Mar 1st 2008 10:02AM
Yea..when I was reading the story,I was thinking,ok...isnt there suppose to be a cord detached with the babe and the mother?I thought that was kinda weird???
blayzenfaith Mar 1st 2008 10:12AM
Yeah there is a placenta and cord that is still attached that is to be pushed out and I would like to know if the trian was still moving did the baby hit its head or was the cord ripped from either person.....They left out so many details to make me believe the story. But in the event that the story is true the baby Should be named Miracle

Yeah, right. I believe in the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy also.

Remember the old joke you heard. Ever been in the room when your mother had a baby.

Actually this is a true story, one needs only look at international news... here's a link for this story from an international news source http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=30585278-f184-46ce-bebf-d59b8ed9d8a2

Hope they are both doing good,.
god bless

I don't believe this story. When a baby is born, the cord is attached to both babe and mother. Did the force of the baby going down the toilet rip it free from the mother, cause if thats the case, this woman would probably be dead from bleeding to death. Bunch of pish.
