Where on Earth? Week 46 - Roseau, Dominica

Not Central America, but close. This picture was actually taken just outside of the center of Roseau, the capital of Dominica, when I was visiting the Caribbean island during Christmas 2006; a holiday season full of steel drums, reggae music and fried plantain. Much less developed for tourists, Dominica is one of the Caribbean islands that doesn't boast flocks of foreigners lounging on sandy beaches, cocktails in hand. Instead it's referred to as the Nature Island and high on the list of hikers, scuba divers and other outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.

Great photo. Lucky you too getting to go there during Christmas. My aim is to get out there in 2008 and I have been spending time learning about Dominica - the land of my parents.
I started a group called Dominican Diaspora as a way to connect to people and hope it will bring people together.
I dont think I was taught enough about Dominica and now am going to have to do the learning myself but hopefully people in the group will help me too.
Any other photos?

yeah, there are a lot more photos at www.thenatureisland.net, a website that I worked on which has writing about, and pictures of, Dominica. I hope you get a chance to go someday, it's truly an amazing place.
