Hummm Lets take a video of a computer just setting just in case it catches fire. You know it happens every day.
Justin Glow Feb 22nd 2008 9:05AM
I thought the same thing first too, Rob, but if you look closely you can see debris around the machine and smoke already coming out when the video first starts.
JT Feb 22nd 2008 8:21PM
Oh great...just wait until the retards in Washington running the TSA see this.....no more laptops on airplanes....as well as toothpaste, deodarant, water, diet coke and of course, the biggest danger in the sky.....finger nail clippers
Nick M Feb 22nd 2008 8:32PM
Awfully funny that someone just "happened" to be videotaping that laptop at the time. Seems like a diversion tactic of some kind. What else happened near-by while this was going on?
Ricky P Feb 22nd 2008 8:40PM
How convieniant to ban so much yet permit laptops on planes as well! Laptops are not Necessities! Like Gramps and Granny needed them. A cell phone and compressed sulfer alone from a box of matches placed inside the phone could cause at the very least enough Bang to blow out a planes window, so why a laptop? They need be in cargo!
Li Feb 22nd 2008 9:34PM
The reason that we don't put laptops in cargo is because they are stolen by baggage handlers. My company sends out emails at least once a quarter begging us not to check them because yet another one was stolen. And those of us who have to travel for our jobs are trying to protect your sensitive information by not letting baggage handlers onto our computers.
Carol Feb 22nd 2008 10:09PM
Wow... I, for one, require a laptop to do my business. When I travel I work up until the plane is ready to board. I would never put a pricey piece of equipment in a suitcase to be flung around at the whims of a baggage handler. How daft!
Bruce Bender Feb 23rd 2008 12:25AM
Oh, please. If laptops go into the cargo hold, they'll get damaged.
Jon Feb 22nd 2008 8:43PM
If you look closely, it's not the laptop that catches fire but the transformer on the AC adapter that catches fire...the guy pulls the laptop away from that transformer.....and someone filming this? That's the strange part....someone holding a camera right when it starts to smoke...strange, very strange.
zoop Feb 22nd 2008 8:53PM
if this happened on a plane, the same thing would happen as in this photo...
airplanes do not explode if a fire starts in the cabin....just as they dont fall like a rock if the engines 1 or all happen to flame out in midair.
flippin idiot media.
Ricky P Feb 22nd 2008 8:56PM
Everybody complains about the bans of content on a plane! What pampered little babies fly these days! I remember when a good book and a coke and peanuts were fine and dandy! But then again...one could smoke on planes as well! DRATZ! So much for the good 'ol days! Puff*.Phillip Morris Brands! Good S@*t!
Gideon000 Feb 23rd 2008 2:22AM
The video footage is of poor quality. This was probably taken with someone's cellphone (one that has video capabilities as well). I doubt someone was standing at the ready with camera in hand for some nefarious purpose.
It's more likely that the person who was using the laptop put it down when it began to smoke and someone nearby had a cell phone camera (or a small video-cam) that he or she used to capture the disturbing malfunction.
emma Feb 22nd 2008 9:31PM
Why were there no scream's and scared people running away?
emma Feb 22nd 2008 9:30PM
And another thing, why was it just sitting there all by itself?
Alf E Newbie Feb 22nd 2008 9:53PM
Mongo smell bullshit
Rich Simpson Feb 22nd 2008 9:56PM
I heard laptops were hot items but this is crazy!
Randy B Feb 22nd 2008 9:59PM
This obviously was staged. As far as happening on a plane, I fly all the time and have yet to see anyone
recharging their laptop while on board. We can ban laptops, we can ban shampoo and tooth paste, if they really wanna blow up a plane, they will figure out a way to do it. By the way, should we ban shoes too?
Groovner Feb 22nd 2008 10:21PM
Is this at LAX or Mexico City????? But then again, whats the difference. It would have been nice to understand the language!
john s. mournian Feb 22nd 2008 10:33PM
Banning laptops is just another notch in GW Bush's record___glorified by the TSA and all the goofs leading it. Beef up security so we can safely ship our laptop in the baggage compartment. Everybody can be happy and
content about their property. I am going to see about sending my laptop via Express Mail to overseas addresses, or maybe just buy another laptop. No, i am not "rich"__it is a sense of priorities and I thinkthat my success in business is more important than a big DVD at home or a football season ticket.
Smokescreen
Raych Feb 25th 2008 2:30AM
Well the laptop was laying right on the floor where the fan generally is....I NEVER EVER leave my laptop laying flat on a surface where it can't breath. I will prop it up so the fan can run properly or lay it on the side. So no wonder it exploded. It got hot because the stupid owner did not allow it to "breathe" properly.
