Houma's a great town. However, I hate the misnomer that New Orleans Mardi Gras is not family friendly. Nearly the entire parade route is lined with families with young children. It's not until you get towards the French Quarter that things change. Bourbon Street itself on the morning of Mardi Gras Day is full of families as well.
Besides, if you bring a kid with you, you get better beads. Everyone knows that.
