I think I've met someone through everyway you mentioned except one that I can think of... Couchsurfing.com. It is a website made to connect travelers and help them find, local and cheap sleeping accomodations, but it also is a great way to find people where you may be traveling and meet up for a coffee or beer. I met up with someone I'd only e-mailed a couple times in Hawaii and he was so much fun and had loads of cheap ideas and tips to see the most out of the island. As well as the real local favorites! Great websites to make traveling friends, not to mention you can meet fellow travelers where you live! We have a group that meets up every wednesday.
