What's the dirtiest hotel in the U.S.? It has company
TripAdvisor has just released its annual list of the dirtiest hotels in the U.S. I suppose this is akin to Mr. Blackwell's Annual Worst-Dressed list aimed at celebrities. Who would aspire to land a spot on such a list?
The Hotel Carter, a 700 room architectural beauty in Manhattan is right at the top of the worst of the dirtiest. The photo on its Web site looks rather 40ish funky--perhaps it hasn't been cleaned since then. At one time, the hotel was probably magnificent and the place to be. Perhaps, it's in need of a real update. Whatever the reason, if you look at the travel ratings review chart, this place isn't even recommended for budget travelers. Young singles might like it a tad better. Young singles without dates, or nowhere to go perhaps?
If all the complaints are accurate, it sounds like this could be named Hell Hotel with accuracy. Mice, lice, cigarette butts, prostitutes, police, blood, hair of various types everywhere, slow to fill tubs, paint peeling--you name it, this place has it. So, this is what the dirtiest hotel looks like? On the plus side, for the Times Square area, it's price is a deal if you don't have health or safety concerns. Patricking, who posted this shot on Flickr wrote that this is how he found his room when he arrived. The bag is the only additon. This was in April 2007. For other dirty of the dirtiest.
Check out these weird hotels:
Also on the dirtiest list:
It's too bad that those connected to Days Inn and Red Carpet Inn have such bad ratings. Since these are brand name hotels, it goes to show that reading about a hotel before you show up is a good idea instead of relying on the fact you have stayed in a perfectly fine Days Inn. I'd also double check to see if anything has changed since the last comments were made. Hotels and motels can go through transformations, however, in the case of the ones listed, there needs to be major, major improvements.
For those of you traveling to the UK, TripAdvisor also lists the dirtiest hotels there. If a hotel has the word Eden in it, don't be fooled in thinking it might be paradise. Regency, Manor and Resort also may not mean anything. Whoever thought up the name of some of these hotels had a way with words, even though they didn't have a clue about how to run them.

How about ALL the Super 8 Motels. And these places still charge $75-$90 a night, depending on the season.

The BEST WESTERN in LA is the worst I ahve seen with the white sheets supposed to have been washed & ironed out with mucous & blood stains will make anyone puke. When my old man came back from a trip he saw tis stain & started to accuse me of having some damn jerk in my room was the worst nightmare I ahve ever come accross in my life when we stayed there.
If I was mean & daring I woudl ahve sued the daylights out of these management morons for not checking on the rooms housekeeping service daily & on the rounds.

Days Inn in Winter Haven, FL was disgusting. Cockroaches everywhere! You definitely did not want to touch their Continental breakfast in the morning.

I'm curious if it was owned by the Tran family, still. I went to school with their daughters (Monica and Teresa) and they, too had to live there. I remember welfare families out all hours of the night (as I was heading home from the clubs). To be quite honest, many of the wealthy in NYC were slum lords. Look at restaurateur Steve Tzolis. He owned the now shut down, Elton Hotel on 21st and Park Avenue South. Thank God they closed that dump, down! Why is the Carter still open?

My husband and I honeymooned in a nice room in one of the casinos in north Louisiana. The room was nice and we were never bothered. But, there was a moment our first night there when I was really embarressed.... after we "celebrated" our wedding day, well, let's just say that we found out exactly how thin the walls were.

When I am staying at a cheap hotel/motel, i always wear a wet suit and gloves while inside the room. In the morning, i shower in the suit, thereby rinsing off any old semen, blood, brains, teeth, fava beans, etc... that might have been transferred during my stay.

I stayed at a Hampton Inn hotel in Westport, MA. Upon entering my room a spider had ran across the floor, i freaked. I have a huge spider phobia. So my sweet husband didnt have the heart to tell me that there was also a HUGE spider that had its web between the tv and the wall. OMG so then i just went over to the window to chill out for a second and the window (between the screen and the window) was filled with spiders. I was appalled, didnt the housekeepers see these pest. To this day I will never ever stay at a hampton inn even if it had the only room available, i would rather sleep in my car.

My husband & I stayed at the Sparks, Nevada Motel 6. It was the worst hotel experience of my 44yrs on this earth! The beds had cat or dog or wig hair all over the sheets and the heater, and to top it all off, there was a dildo in the tiolet. When I told the manager, all she said was eew. Nothing else, did not even offer to remove it. When I called Motel 6 Customer Service, all we were offered was a free 1 night stay in any motel 6 across the U.S. No Thanks!!!!! I have pictures to prove this too!
