I fly frequently and because I am on time all the time and in my seat, carry on stowed, seat belt on and prepared, I get penalized by jerks who do just what the author is suggesting, blazing on to the plane at the last second with large carry on, there is no room for the carry on because all the bins all full, the carry on then needs to be tagged, the baggage door re-opened, bag placed inside, doofus seated waiting the whole time until the door is closed, the doofus has gathered him/herself and is seated before the plane will back away from the gate. I can't tell you how often this happens (my guesstimate on the 40 flights I take each years is close to 50%). I think when you do this you are inconsiderate, rude, obnoxious and oblivious.
