Branson's not horrible, but it is overrated. I visited it last month with my parents. The Ozark Mountains are indeed still gorgeous, and Branson's got some really nice miniature golf courses and a beautiful quilt shop. But the traffic there is horrendous, and much of the entertainment's very kitschy and over-hyped. Old Branson's iconic dime store Dick's 5 and 10, which used to sell a variety of rather unique items, has now become just another kitschy souvenir shop where you have to push past 50 people to browse the same kinds of cheap junk you could buy at any dollar store, convenience store, or Wal-Mart.
Silver Dollar City's overrated, too. You have to wait in line for forever to ride the same kinds of rides you can ride at any big amusement park or carnival and see the same kinds of artisans you can see at any arts and crafts fair. Silver Dollar City's not cheap, either. One adult ticket now costs about $57; kids' tickets are only about ten bucks cheaper.
I want to tour the San Francisco Bay Area more than anything else. Its history and scenery fascinate me, and it must be wonderful having 65-degree weather in the middle of July!
