While The Amazing Race is one of my favorite shows, I will say you are missing the point of Survivor. It is about isolation and group dynamics in an environment that is new and exotic. It isn't a travel show.
You are also basing your judgements on one episode. Had you seen the first episode you would have seen them taking part in prayer in a Buddhist template on top of a mountain.
There were also episodes where they traveled to the Great Wall of China, as well as another episode where they spent the night at the famous Shaolin Temple.
They did show pieces of the culture, it's people and heritage but again... the focus of the show is isolation and the contestants only have each other. The game doesn't allow them to mingle with the locals on an everyday basis.
Comparing The Amazing Race to Survivor is like comparing apples to oranges.
