To quit your job and go backpacking is a brave thing to do. I wish I had done it when I was single with no kids.
My base pack weight is usually around 12 lbs including a Nemo tent, camping mat, stove, down sleeping bag, food, first-aid and cooking gear. I used to pack heavy but I find it much better to go light.
