Spain's government-run Women's Institute calls Ryanair calendar sexist
Remember the Ryanair calendar featuring female flight attendants dressed in bikinis while leaning against heavy machinery in provocative angles? Spain's government-run Women's Institute is calling the move sexist, saying, "[i]f there had been men in the calendar, I'm sure there would have been no controversy."Further, the organization claims the calendar "represent the stewardesses as sexual objects" and "reinforce discriminatory stereotypes." Didn't we stop calling them stewardesses in favor of the less-discriminatory term "flight attendants?"
It sounds to me that the Women's Institution of Spain is fighting for the rights of male flight attendants, rather than protecting the dignity of the females. So what do you think, does the Women's Institution have a leg to stand on?

A new medical procedure known as "stikadiktomy" taken by some of Spain's "Womens Institute Division" people, would solve this problem quite easily :):):) PS, Precisely what are men supposed to use as sex symbals if not a woman ????

To bad weak women have taken over instead of truly feeling for all instead of their lack of knowledge of all people's and their privacy rights and rights to have pictures taken of themselves. They don't understand people at all but their fears and confusion only that will harm others. They are jealous and have never made real love with a man where it is felt for all and to leave others alone to continue moderation, choices and utmost: peace of people. THEIR comments are demeaning to WOMEN by stating them objects. I see people like me and you who are confident and happy and doing their own thing. Can't they handle the shape and health of healthy women? Women rule! The men should be jealous that women get all the appeal attention way over them all the time! Leave these things alone! Uniforms mean nothing!!!! It's just us gals doing this stuff for us too. Keeps us in shape which means health like it's supposed to be like models for each other and very natural. If women are going to rule, let them rule!

Doesn't look like the "Flight Attendants" minded being objectified- and they probably got paid for it, so it's a "job." Now, depending on what that job "description" entails- they have to expect that MEN have to buy the calender in order for them to get PAID. Some of those men will be on the flights that they "attend" to, no?
And, some of those men will probably assume that if they had no problem "posing" nearly naked- they have no problem doling out more then PEANUTS. Tough noogies.

I find it rather amusing that "Zima3000's" answer to every question is to "get them laid." Makes you wonder if he bought a copy, and what HES' doing while he's thumbing through it. It would be like one of the responders on this message board telling him to call Neaman Marcus, and order a blow up doll.

I DON'T MUCH CARE WHAT AMERICAN "FEMINISTS" SAY, SO WHY DO THEY THINK I CARE WHAT A BUNCH OF SPANISH LESBIANS SAY??????????YES, I SAID LESBIANS.....MOST TIMES, THE WORDS "FEMINIST" AND "LESBIAN" ARE INTERCHANGEABLE......JUST MY OPINION.....

Of course it's sexist, so what? Is that keeping women from making our own sexist calendars depicting men as objects? Nope. Sexism isn't just for guys.
Humans enjoy looking at things they find attractive. Males are just more willing to give in to their primal urges.
I'm pretty sexist against men and it hasn't killed anyone. It doesn't make me a lesbian or ugly. Besides, most men don't really care anyway.

these ladies may have been put as sex objects. but were they put so just so as females? I mean, is this discrimination against every single other females in the universe? furthermore, as long as these women agreed on doing this job...

It shows they have nothing important in thier lives going on so they bad mouth some very pretty ladies !!! I bet not ONE of those women on the calender think its sexist and they are to only ones that matter or should have a opinion. The first poster is correect the people that dont like it need to get laid !!!

I work for an airline and for one you wouldn't even know that these women are flight attendants but the reason that you know is because it tells you. I don't see anything wrong with any of those pictures. As far as I'm concerned those are just models around jets, it's no different then any other calender that has a theme to it. I'm sure most people wished there flight attendants looked like them because we all know that all flight attendants don't look like that. I personally don't think it's discriminatory or racist. They could always make a calender with the pilots on it but then would anybody really be interested in that.

what's the fuss?! My 89 year old mother in her housecoat is hotter than these bimbo's....

So where's the calender with the PILOTS wearing nothing but their speedos??? I'm also glad to see that plastic surgeons are alive and well in Spain! LOL!!

Yes, it is sexist. Anything that is created with the male gaze in mind is sexist against women. The same goes for the opposite case. In our modern, enlightened society, we should work towards eliminating sex, and therefore sexism, altogether. In the case of calendars, all calendars depicting people in sexually-enticing poses should be banned. In fact, why the need for photos with our calendars at all? We'd save paper and ink by having clear, functional grids with no colour or pictures whatsoever.

If a woman has a right to do what she wants with her own body by having an abortion, doesn't that same woman have a right to have her picture featured in a calendar?
What's more immoral? Having the brains sucked out of a hole drilled into the skull of your unborn fetus/child, or having your picture in a calendar (with the proceeds going to charity).
A woman's body, a woman's choice (but only if feminist groups approve).
