The World Wildlife Fund's Gift Center provides some interesting opportunities to give a gift and make an impact in some of the most endangered areas of the world.
By donating $50 or $100 you can symbolically adopt an animal, in the name of your friends or family members. They will issue you a certificate with a photograph of the animal. A lot of really weird animals are available to be picked. Hello, three-toed sloth!

My Mum bought me a tiger from WWF a few years ago - I appreciated that she didn't waste the money on something else. it would be a great gift for a kid too as the toy is really nice.
