It's not such a small world, after all
Although the Disney company doesn't admit that plus-sized tourists are causing "It's a Small World" boats to bottom out, longtime Disney watcher Al Lutz notes that "heavier than anticipated" loads have caused boats to come to a standstill on more than one occasion. The problem has become common enough that Disneyland has built a platform next to one tricky area where boats commonly get stuck. Disney denies that weight issues are the cause of stuck boats. Instead, the company suggests that "layers and layers" of fiberglass have built up where maintenance teams have patched and re-patched problem areas.
Nevertheless, "It's a Small World" will be getting an inch more of water, and some lighter boats. The ride will be closed for ten months beginning in January 2008.

You all are crazy and immature i'm 450 pounds and it's not from over eating it's from a medical condition and you all are the type of people who make a rude comment but cant do it to my face i'll over hear and then when confronted face to face run off or try to deny what is said you dont know anything you just assume and assuming just makes an ass out of yourself i just got back from a disneyworld vacation and I fit on everything with no trouble and nothing broke down or got stuck so maybe there should be an asshole scale for every ride so you can step on up and not get to ride for how you act. I would rather be fat then be an ugly person which you can tell all of you are from your rude comments

All of the hatred towards overweight people sickens me.
Bill Nov 17th 2007 2:29PM
It is not the time to pick on overweight people. Smokers are the ones to pick on. As long as there is one alive there is reason for hate and discrimination. Of course, when no one smokes taxes will have to go up for nonsmokers. Fat people give more business to farmers. Without fat people there would probably be no headlights on tractors. The government should step in when fat people are being discriminated against. I know a guy around 350 pounds that wants to race in the Kentucky Derby. The governments should get him a horse large enought to compete.

I can't believe the narrow minded people in this world !Are you so dissatisfied with your lives that you need to make overweight people the center of your cruel words ? Being an overweight person myself, I could not tell you how hurtful these words are. Hopefully none of you are parents, as your veiws will be handed down to your innocent children !! I would love to have anyone walk in my shoes for awhile. Just in case you are wandering my problem stems from thyroid disfuntions. I am still a good person, although most of you haters wouls probably never take the time to find out. What is inside of a person counts, NOT the outside appearance !!!!!!

Disney could change the boat to a waterslide.

There are real medical reasons that some people are obese. My heart goes out to the truly ill. But I do not believe that those illnesses have spread across America like the plague. What has spread across America is self indulgence and a lack of self control. People wrap themselves in the flag and claim that their freedom entitles them to their every wish.
They do not seem to mind that their rear ends spread into other air passenger’s seats without an, “excuse me.” They consume more of our health care without a, “thank you.” They expect someone to create boats that defy the laws of physics to carry their excessive weight without a concept of reality.
The voluntary obese are selfish. They require more food to sustain them. They require more fuel to transport them. They consume health care resources that needed by the truly unfortunate. They weaken our nation. The obese are not acceptable for military service. They live in the freedoms fought for by others.
I want to help the truly ill. But those that falsely claim entitlements because of selfish self indulgence disgust me. If you have access to a mirror, look into it, ask, “What are my obligations to myself and society?” “To what am I really entitled?” “To whom have I created an unnecessary burden?” And finally, “Do I really believe me own answers?”

I remember Hitler said, there was no room in his Germany---if you were not perfect. He killed mentally ill people, fat people, and who ever else, didn't fit in his perfect mold.
Maybe we should just take all of the fat people out and shoot them.
Anyone that isn't 100 lbs, blonde and blue eyed, with an IQ of 150, please step into the gas chambers!!

This society is lacking in exercise, walk sometimes instead of driving.

this is mainly for sarah "jenny craig" give me a break I am trying to let you know that yes some people are just lazy but if they are that lazy they would NOT NOT be at a park where they have to get in and out of even a scooter!!!!!!!!!! I was over weight to a tune of almost 350 then I went to the right place NUTRISYSTEM "NOT" jenny craig and now I weigh as of date 166 lbs with no weigh ins and no payment to join and payment to stay on each month also I didn't have to buy a new ice-box and my food is kept in a closet so you have NO NO NO ideal what you are talking about mine was do to medicine I "HAD" to have and when I WENT off the weight "didn't' but I did after 5 years go to Nutrisystem and even though I am handicapped and use a scooter do not exersie because I am unable "YOU YOU" HAVE NO right unless of course that is if you are just the right weight and not been rode on like the rides at disney world (are have you)

To all those rude people making judgement on other peoples size---karma will get you.

I am an overweight person, struggling to be thin, but I would rather opt for safety and not be allowed on a ride if it's going to put myself or others in jeopardy.
David Jan 14th 2008 2:17PM
Have you been to D-worlod latley--2/3rd of the people are OBESE and wear hardly any clothing!
lisa Jan 14th 2008 9:14PM
I don't think it is an issue of Disney World trying to be politically correct. They want fat people's dollars just as much as they want skinny people's dollars. Seeing as how so many of the people in this country are overweight, they are probably making more money off them than they are on skinny people anyway, especially on consessions. It is good business sense to accomodate big people.
We are blessed to live in a country where food is so abundant. Better that than people starving to death!
lisa Jan 14th 2008 9:36PM
Seeing as how so many fat people are renting the scooters, buying a turkey leg AND the Mickey Mouse ice cream Disney World is making lots more money from them than the skinny people...and that's the bottom line. They are going to make the rides as big as they have to in order to accomodate their best customers!!
ROSIE Jan 14th 2008 9:40PM
IM FAT AND CAN STILL GO AROUND THE PARK MANY TIMES....ITS A GOOD WAY OF GETTING EXERCISE. AND IM ALSO THANKFUL THAT DISNEY CAN MAKE SO MANY PEOPLE SMILE AND HAVE RIDES FOR EVERYONE TO ENJOY.AND WEIGHT SHOULD NOT BE A ISSUE WHEN HAVING FUN ESPECIALLY WITH MICKEY AND FRIENDS.

I was at Disney World last April and saw an obese woman run over a little girl's leg with her motorized scooter. She didn't even stop and ask the little girl if she was OK. It was a hit and run!!! I don't think these people have any business being in that park. What can you really do there when you are that big?
Pinky Jan 15th 2008 12:12AM
Is it only the young who can be so thoughtless or is there a genuine "I could care less" illness in our country?? My husband and I always use the scooters now and neither of us are overweight. He is diabetic, with bypass surgery, his legs and back ache if he walks even a short length. I have had to receive shots in both my knees because of knee and leg pains with exercise. Both of us would love to just be able to walk around DW as we used to but we have to deal with cards we're dealt. Not all pain and suffering is visible so don't judge what you can't see. It could be you someday, but I hope not.

seems like you should be able to alternate wieght distribution. you can see when big people like myself get on keep the next guy off seems easier to do that then close the ride after all thats not the only ride big people cant ride need to make all rides to accompany any size adult or child. we feel bad enough when the bar lock down wont lock we stand in line hours only to find we dont fit the ride yet we pay to ride but are not able to ride
