Worst Airports
This just in! London's Heathrow Airport and Chicago's O'Hare International have been named the worst airports in the world.Well, technically, 2,500 travelers asked by TripAdvisor to rate 36 international airports responded by voting Heathrow and O'Hare as their "least favorite" based upon ease of navigation, bathroom cleanliness, and parking facilities. Frankly, it's a rather misleading survey since there are far, far worse airports out there than the 36 measured. But, with that caveat in mind, here the ten "least favorite" airports according to TripAdvisor.
- London, Heathrow Airport / Chicago, O'Hare International
- New York, JFK
- Atlanta, Hartsfield International
- Los Angeles International
- Miami International
- New York, La Guardia
- Paris, Charles de Gaulle
- Dallas Fort Worth
- Newark Liberty International
- London Gatwick

Glad to see Paris on the list....well deserved....but you forget Houston International. My advice? Fly into any airport but Houston when you are returning from another country. Discourteous...confusing...and many other unprintable words describe the experience...JGD

If you don't like the "airport experience" ... THEN STAY HOME OR DRIVE!!!!

In my opinion, Philadelphia is the worst airport I've ever had the misfortune of experiencing!

The worst in the world is Vegas airport, they treat people like dirt and the baggage claim is a joke.I am not riding Southwest, they throw the bags off the carousel and treat them like garbage,I waited 35 minutes and the bags were laying on the floor in the corner near the door.Don't trust Vegas cabs, the Arabs and the Mexicans will act dumb just to get more fare on the meter.
The best cab in Vegas is Whittlesea Cab in Henderson.

Clearly not many have travelled internationally, otherwise it would be unanomous that Charles de Gaulle is the worst airport on this list, confusing? yes Need a compass to navigate? definately Ample amount of signs to lead the way? heck no, Need hiking boots to get from gate to gate? absolute muss, On time Flights? a very rare occasion...............and then there is the smell, the dirt, and the herd of confused, ticked off, and clueless travellers, with a sprinkle of French attitude, refusing to help

Did anybody notice that 8 out of 10 of these are in America? Seems kind of biased to me. I've flown in business to many parts of the world and seen alot of places that were worse than these. Try Murtala Mohammad in Nigeria or Port Blair in the andeman Islands and you'll think this list is the top ten not the worst.

As far as the worst airport, Atlanta deserves top vote! The security screening is a disaster; there are like a thousand Delta planes taking off at once (hense that's their main hub location); too many rude and unprofessional employees that don't deserve a job; and, those hideous concourse trains. Dallas-Fort Worth is another terrible place to be when you're connecting a flight, though the Skylink transit makes things a bit better. And as someone earlier mentioned, DFW American Airlines employees can be the biggest pricks around. JFK would be a better airport if they'd get their maintenance and facilities situations in check; otherwise, I don't mind flying there. My favorite airports are LAX, Shreveport Regional, South Bend Regional, Houston, San Francisco, McCarran, and Logan.

EWR (Newark) has to be the worst airport - all 14 flights I had this past year out of Newark have been late by at least 30 minutes. Rude, indifferent employees - But at least you have the scenic view of Northern State Prison next to the airport....

JFK is not really nice. I'm from Minnesota and you have to say MSP is better, though JFK may be one of the better out of Newark, LaGuardia, and itself.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the nastiest airport Houston International. Gross Smelly and small. I flew to the Carribean in July 07, and that airport is digusting, and dirty. If you have the misfortune of having to stop there my advice would be to carry hand sanitizer and Wet Ones!!!

Flying Northwest through Minneapolis can be the most wonderful experience or a living nightmare. No problems with the int'l flights, boarding goes smoothly and on time departure. But the domestic flights into and out of MSP (LAX, SAN, and SFO) are my three experiences are absolutel HELL. You don't get to you're wonderful int'l flight until the next day because you miss the connection due to a flight delay of your incoming flight. And when I arrived back into San Diego, we sat on the tarmac for almost THREE HOURS because there was a bad storm in L.A. and planes heading to LAX had to be diverted so they could refuel. And in their great genius, NWA decided to let one of THOSE planes park at our gate and make us sit on the tarmac, instead of driving the fuel trucks out to put gas in the diverted planes so they could get to LAX. If you live near a Northwest hub and can get a non-stop int'l flight, consider yourself wayyyyy lucky. But if you need to fly into one of these hubs from somewhere else and connect, roll the dice at your own risk . . .

I use Atlanta a lot. It's far from the worst airport in the world. It's just boring if you're stuck during a weather or ATC delay. Not much entertainment.
Vegas at least has slot machines to pass the time.
Charlotte has nice rocking chairs in the main passenger concourse. Nice touch.
LaGuardia can be cramped.
Pittsburgh is nice, but under utilized since USAirways dropped it as a hub. (I wish someone would restart non-stop service from Greensboro to Pittsburgh someday)
Akron Canton is great. 15 minutes from landing to the freeway.
Greensboro, NC...another nice, but underused airport. Skybus (no frills) is adding flights...even a non-stop daily to Burbank, CA in January.
DFW...hate those HUGE, violent thunderstorms that seem to last forever.
DIA...could they put an airport any farther away from the rest of Colorado? (Hard to find a gas station anywhere near the airport, except for the on-site convenience store-gas station near the rental car lots). In this time of $3 gas, it'd be nice if you had more choice to shop for a better price to top out the rental gas tank.
That's my rant. Have a nice day.

I agree with afdbgasdf Lambert Airport in Saint Louis is the worst airport I've ever been in. I live here and have no other choice but to fly out of here. It is dirty, filthy and I wouldn't use the restrooms there unless I absolutely had to. The resturants are horrible and the airline personell are just downright rude. I fly out of here at least 3 times a month and have thought about moving just so I don't have to fly out of here.

JFK..........Nasty, but SFO (San Francisco) bites the big one!!!!!!!!!

The most miserable airport is Seattle.

I've lived in both Atlanta and Chicago, and I agree that O'Hare is a nightmare. We never fly in or out of that monstrosity, preferring to use Midway. It's been renovated recently, so it's nicer than say, ten years ago.
The big advantage to using Midway is size: They never have, and one would be quick to assume, never will ~ try to compete with O'Hare in that respect. It's a breeze getting to Midway via the train, and just as easy riding the train right into the heart of downtown.
I'm not at all sure why the airport in Atlanta would make a "least favorite" list, other than perhaps, with seemingly everyone having to connect to other flights at Hartsfield, it represents a certain level of stress for some travelers. And, the sheer numbers of people who churn through that place every day, I suspect, could make small-town folk feel a little overwhelmed.
But, given the cleanliness of the place, the speed and efficiency of the trains which fly from one concourse to the next ~ and, the fact one might eat their very first Chick-fil-A sandwich while on a layover there... it can be pretty darn dreamy.
