Singapore Airlines asks passengers to "please refrain from sex"
Jamie already covered the potential outcome of putting double beds on an airplane. But now Singapore airlines is directly addressing the situation as well.
A passenger on the inaugral flight argued, "So they'll sell you a double bed, and give you privacy and endless champagne and then say you can't do what comes naturally?" Still, the rooms aren't completely soundproof or sealed, so you've either got to have mad skills or enjoy the fact that you might get caught.

What “comes naturally” for me on a bed--whatever its size--after an endless flow of champagne is an immediate crash (pun not intended). No funny monkey business--I promise.

How could I not stop and comment on this?? The only reason they are saying this is because they have to. Why do people always need permission? Just do it! Nike knew what they were talking about...
Regardless, this is new, and also the only airline with double beds aboard. One more have it and it becomes more the norm, this won't be an issue. In Ben Mutzabaugh's blog, he tells the tale of a A380 passenger (Julie) who tells the Times "the flight (was) so busy with people coming to see the suites, we wouldn't have the opportunity."
Obviously, unless this is a swinger flight.

katieanne29 Nov 3rd 2007 2:30PM
would you want to be assigned to a bed that someone had sex on during the previous flight?

In a double bed -- disgusting !! Go and do it in the toilet like everyone else !!

"QUITE SEX.".ALL GOOD AND FINE, I'D ALSO LIKE TO KNOW WHAT SAFETY FEATURES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THIS MEGA-PLANE TO ENSURE A GREATER CHANCE OF SURVIVAL IF IT WERE TO GO DOWN....

What did the airlines thinl people were going to do in a double bed, play pinochle?

And in a couple of years the airlines will be hiring/furnishing a hostess to help the traveler pass the time. It's a strip club with wings.

Sounds like a new twist to the "Mile High Club"! With all the temptation, I just can't see people not being a little naughty. After all, What really did the airlines expect? Seems like the perfect gift for those upcoming newlyweds to start the honeymoon right. I would recommend a little more soundproofing just in case.

Sex is Good! Paying those First Class Prices tell the airline to shut the hell up and give you some privacy!
WillyB Nov 3rd 2007 3:45PM
At the price of these first class tickets, I would expect to be provided sex.
Web Nov 3rd 2007 4:06PM
Sex should be allowed if you give 2 people a bed, and a door. They pay enough and if they do no offend anyone, who cares. That plane is for long flights.......what else it there to do???
Dehi Nov 3rd 2007 4:19PM
i hope that no one EVER has SEX on a airplane. Blech!!!!!!!

Responding to katieanne29's comment: Obviously, we have someone too young to recall that trains offered sleeping compartments. Granted, people using those were on for the "long haul" but at some point, they would get off and someone else would get that compartment. Additionally, hotels have the same thing--people come in to the rooms, do whatever, leave.
The point is that someone was/is paid to change the sheets in those situations, and someone (likely, from the flight crew) will be paid to change the sheets on the planes--even if the bed was *merely* used to actually sleep in. (Incidentally, would you feel any better getting a bed in which someone just slept in? All those flaked-off dead skin cells and perspiration and body oils, to say nothing of someone who sleeps "au naturel". Does that make you feel any better?)
GW Allison Nov 3rd 2007 4:47PM
Who needs the bed and the expense? They'll give each of you a blanket if you ask...........niiiicely........
Dave Nov 3rd 2007 6:42PM
Just soundproof... for the rates they're charging for the bed, to ask someone not to use it -- for the main reason they wanted to buy it -- just ain't gonna happen.
Julian Nov 3rd 2007 5:01PM
Well if you were going to a hotel, there is a potential that someone had sex in that bed. The airline should do the same that room service does in any hotel. Change linens, prep the room and make sure it is ready for the next customer. if you paying over 10,000 dollars for a ticket in first class, not many people could afford that.
Curt Nov 3rd 2007 5:33PM
once they offered the bed they should have went to topless stewardeses as well for what they charge why would they care ?
lovey Nov 3rd 2007 6:00PM
"Please don't have sex in the semi private double bed during the flight." RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIGHT, people are going to obey that one.
Chrissie Nov 3rd 2007 6:08PM
First class, with champagne, a double bed and privacy screen and I'm not supposed to have a little *fun* with my significant other?! Yeah. uh-huh. Right.
