India's Hosting the World Toilet Summit
This headline sounds like it's a joke, but it's actually quite serious -- The World Toilet Summit has plans to convene in New Delhi later this month to discuss the john, the throne, the bog, the loo -- whatever you call it, it's where most of us do our business. But it's the 'most of us' part that's troubling the WTS -- they'd like to make toilets accessible to everyone by 2025. A lofty goal? Maybe. But it would make the world a safer place -- defecating in open places is one of the biggest ways that fatal diseases are spread. And it would sure make travelling a lot more fun for westerners who are particular about where they spend a penny.
So I have to wonder -- by toilets, do they mean actual sit down toilets? Or are squatties considered toilets? I've seen some very nice squatties in my travels, but none is as welcoming as a loo like the one at home.

I heard that there were almost no cases of hemorrhoids in Japan until their cultural revolution when they got modern plumbing. Now they are about tied with the US. Something to be said about the natural squat position.

There is no shortage of water on the planet. There is and has always been the same amount available. the shortage is in purification and distribution systems. We have control over these so lets do it!

I wonder how many of our presidents cohorts realized how unique we are as Americans? Like all ghettoized peoples, we tend to believe everyone is just like us! How ridiculous! And these notes on personal hygiene are a perfect example of how very different we are. I wouldn't change a thing about our way of life, but, I believe it would benefit our global view if we remember, WE ARE THE UNIQUE PEOPLE! The rest of the world is quite different. WE ARE IN THE MINORITY!

I flew from New Delhi to London about 10 years ago. We had to wait to take off. Before we took off all the bathrooms were so disgusting that I waited to land in England- Though there were toilets on the plane the floors were awash, etc.

About 10 years ago I flew from New Delhi to London. We sat on the runway for about an hour and before we took off all the toilets were disgusting.- fluid swishing, etc. I waited until I arrived in London. My friend and I had flowen from the U.S to Seoul, Hong Kong, Thailand, then New Delhi. Also I noticed you flew in late at night and flew out (supposedly at 5 A.M. but of course it ended up being around 7 A.M.

I thought the urinals that popped up from the ground during peak times was yet another example of how progressive and practical the Dutch are!!!
A Ducth company makes a 4 person portable urinal that has the same footprint as a standard portolet.... how efficient for large festivals!
