I have been using ZUji for a few years, but it seems to be going downhill recently. While it seemed to regularly find good prices on flights a couple of years ago, now it is very rarely the cheapest, and usually has a very restricted selection of flights. It doesn't cover all airlines, and doesn't even seem to cover all flights with the airlines it does cover.
Plus, as you say, they leave the tax to the last minute which is a nasty trick.
My advice - use wikipedia/wikitravel entries on airports to find out which airlines fly the route you want, then go straight to the airline's web site. You'll get a cheaper price and the full range of flights they offer.
