Suing Over the Southwest Dresscode Controversy?
For some reason, Dr. Phil is blaring in my house and while I'm usually good at tuning his Texas accent out, I find I'm catching bits of the show today. Dr. Phil's 'special' guest is Kyla Ebbert, the girl who was asked to leave a Southwest Airlines flight because her outfit was too skimpy. She's on the show with her lawyer to draw publicity to her unfortunate experience, and after a representative from Southwest Airlines came on the show and apologized, she accepted the apology and insisted she wouldn't go on any more TV shows to gain publicity. However, her lawyer would not agree to not sue Southwest Airlines. Huh? Sue? Just what are the damages? Ebbert claims that her publicity-hoarding and lawsuit threats are in an attempt to make sure this kind of embarrassment doesn't happen to anyone else, and I think it's a pretty safe bet that it won't. I'm not a fan of Dr. Phil, but he did put both she and her lawyer in their place so for that I applaud him. .

I just saw the show and was in initially appalled by what the airline had done to Kyla. I do not think she was inappropriately dressed at all! But - I knew she would not really accept an apology to drop the subject as in how she "danced" around the hosts questions with creative wording. They apologized, she got great publicity, free tickets and showed the world what an *** some people can be. I agree with the host though. At this point I also have a problem knowing my tax dollars are going to courts that entertain such frivolous lawsuits.
Kyla got her apology, free tickets and sooooo much more. What is left is simply a Gold Digger. Is she looking to fund more plastic surgery? Most likely.

This woman was dressed for attention, she got it so she needs to shut up and go away.

I really do not want my grandchildren growing up thinking it is ok to expose there bodys. I am taking a trip to Italy and It is dress approiatlly or you will not be able to tour many places. where did our dress codes go and why are we allowing this kind of behavior?

the only way big business can learn a lesson is if it is hit in the wallet. whether it is frivilous or not is for the courts to decide. everyone deserves their day in court.

I saw Miss Ebbert on The Today Show and other programs lamenting being embarrassed by a SouthWest Airlines employee for showing "a little skin.". Her skirt was one of those low slung hip hugger jean types and her top was an elasticized type. She continued to tug the skirt down to make it lower and closer to her knees to appear longer. Even when she did, the skirt was a full foot above her knees. Those types of skirts tend to ride up..... so when one is going up and down stairs like at smaller airports such as the ones SouthWest uses for their many stops, one can see all the way to one's tonsils when wearing them. Try bending over in a skirt just inches above the knee and you'll see what I mean. Not you guys. A skirt as short as hers would have exposed everything ...... including the morning news to those around her even just reaching up or bending over just a smidgen. The men might have enjoyed it.... but I wouldn
t have although I would have just ignored it thinking she was just acting like a hoochie. Her top was clearly the clinging kind that is easily hiked up over the boobs to cover them or pulled down to show her store bought assets...which ever look is desired. She's had a boob job. Trust me when I say that women who've paid good money for big boobs want to show them off. I've lived and been around Newport Beach enough to spot them a block away. Oh yeah, she also worked at Hooters part time. She was hardly a demure little college girl. No big deal to me but she was hardly the little innocent flower she wanted to come off as. She was working the situation and deserves nothing more.....not even free flights.

We weren't that impressed that we would want to see her behind every time she twitches. She's not that hot!

Not everyone wants to see Kyla's crotch & boobs. If she's that anxious to show them off, she can always give a private showing, or dance around a pole at one of the bars where that's the kind of entertainment featured. It's not dress for a plane flight (or an office interview, unless it's Playboy or the like).

you know i am sick to death with people who like to push it to the limit just to see what they can get away with. It's just like people who will fake a accident to get money . This world is full of people who are bored and always thinging of a new sceme to see how far they can go. If any airline lets people get away with an extreme such as this just to please a few people I will never fly with them and i fly often. So why do we have any rules in life? It's all out of control.HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR OTHERS!!!!!

Lets face it, Southwest CATERS to the most slovenly dressed people of all the airlines. Southwast planes are full of people dressed like slobs. But they pick on a woman that was nicely dressed with a short skirt.
My advise is dont fly on this scumbag airline. Fly on United, American, Northwest, Delta, Continental etc screw Southwest - they dont know how to run an airline.

Yessssssssssssssss, Southwest Airlines, bring on the slum of nudity....you certainly have my deepest appreciation for not using your business!. ta ta!

What asses!
If she couldn't be arrested for indecent exposure there's no basis for what happened and the people responsible should have their employment terminated.
This is a country where we are FREE to do as we please, as long as no laws are broken. That applies to women too.
Big business needs to be reminded that they exist to provide a service and could not exist without customers. In order to impress that upon them it is usually necessary to hit them in the pocketbook, since the almighty greenback dollar is really all they care about.

Here is a response to Frank Ward -- of course you think her outfit was appropriate since you're a guy and love to have everything shown to you. Her top was not an issue, it was her skirt. I'm sorry but when you sit down in a skirt it rises up and with a 6" skirt on you would be able to see everything. You were looking at a picture that was taken AFTER she tugged her skirt down and it was riding just at the crotch level to begin with. I don't allow my daughter to dress like this, even she thinks it's trashy. And as for not knowing how to run an airline - then explain how Southwest has had 33 years of continued profitability while the other airlines that you've mentioned all had to go into bankruptcy or the like just to survive. I can also tell you that Southwest gets a lot of its business from those other airlines because they cancel flights because there's not enough people on them to make a profit. I know this because (a) I used to work for one of those other airlines and (b) I currently work for Southwest. And as for we take all the sloppy dressed people, I'm sorry but every airline takes people no matter how they're dressed and I've seen some very sloppy people who fly in First Class when they have no class. If the employees have to be held to a dress code to fly, then I believe so should the passengers. Our dress code is that we cannot wear short shorts, short skirts and revealing tops and this is only a partial list of what we have to follow. And as for Kyla, this wasn't going to be a big deal but then her mother got involved and it became a big deal since she's the one who called CNN to begin with. She's gotten her 15 minutes of fame, it's time to drop the issue. She got her story told, she got her apology and she even got 2 free tickets to fly anywhere that we go (mind you that could total up to $1500 in airfare). She doesn't need to waste the courts time and the taxpayers money. She just wanted an apology all along and she got it, personally, so drop it.

Maybe Osama is the owner of South West.

I think she should sue. I notice that most of the deragatory comments are from women. This is quite a shame. The girl is 20yrs old and that is what girls her age are wearing. There is nothing wrong with her outfit. Initially southwest refused to apologize and now that they see people are listening to her then now they want to apologize and give her free stuff. Go ahead and sue girl maybe next time if you don't want people to wear certain things you should have it in writing.
Mary Mullane Sep 25th 2007 3:51PM
Add to above: There's nothing wrong with airlines, universities, schools, offices, etc. having dress codes --- though they should be published for those who don't know and don't have much sense or taste.

When people wear denium mini skirts, they -- well to begin with, they're usually wearing *actual* miniskirts. Although denium, it's rather long for a "mini" (Anyone else remember the '80's?).
Secondly, everyone tugs it down when they've got a moment and it rides up. The issue here wasn't just putting it back in place, but insisting "oh, try to make it a bit *longer*"
The only trouble here *honestly* is that she's well-endowed by God and she isn't being ashamed of her body and trying to cover it up and play it down. She's wearing a bra and a sweater; give it up, people!
If I'd been wearing this suit with my natural B cup, there wouldn't have been the remotest of issues (taken up). (26yrs old; Northern California; female)
