Air New Zealand to Offer Gay-Themed Flight
Bring on the feather boas, shimmery eye makeup, and stiletto heels. And if you want to sleep, maybe some sleeping pills, because Air New Zealand's gay-themed flight from San Francisco to Sydney promises to be 14 hours of nonstop fun.
The flight is scheduled to depart February 25 for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney, Australia, which is one of the world's most well-attended gay events. Passengers can expect drag queens, pink cocktails, and a cabaret, as well as gay-friendly movies and a "Get-Onboard Girlfriend" going away party.
Air New Zealand flight-tested a similar theme for Sydney's Mardi Gras in 2007, when flight attendants wore pink feather boas and the pilot donned fairy wings. American Airlines, Air Canada, and other airline companies have become visible sponsors of gay pride events, but none so far have used "campy" programming to appeal to gay and lesbian travelers.
I'm a married, heterosexual woman, but this is one 14-hour flight I just might actually enjoy.

Do the gay themed flights enter at the rear of the runway?

Every time I read bashing anti-gay comments it reminds me to be grateful that the NRA fights to help me keep my guns. What out bigots, there's a firm strong fist on this limp wrist.

Way To Go Aussies and New Z Air!!!! Hope more Airlines follow ... Would love to get back to a family (as in male Dad and female Mom) oriented Mardi Gras here.

Gigi Sep 20th 2007 3:26PM
WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THE IGNORANT COMMENTS PEOPLE HAVE AGAINST GAYS, AND I AM A MARRIED HETEROSEXUAL WOMAN; ANYWAY THIS IS A FLIGHT I WOULD DEFINITELY ENJOY; ALL OF THOSE WHO DO HATE SO MUCH GAY PEOPLE IF BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SURE OF THEIR SEXUALITY AND FEEL INSECURE ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will they have a stall just for Sen. Larry Craig?
They can call the flight, The Queen of Toilet Trash.
I would never, never go on a flight with all those wild queens. Gay is one thing, drag is too much.
Will the pilot be Ms. Drag herself, John Travolta?
Sex in the air ...

How many priest will attend. They will be on their knees and for what reason? lol Will they wear their drag clothes and bring along their boy toy?

it's this kind of stereotypical flameness that kept me closted growing up. some gays are actually into playing sports-not just watching hunky men play, cars, hiking, camping, trucks, and other masculine guy stuff-and NOT into make up, cross dressing, high heals, pink drinks, boas, and other queeny stuff. i hope whoever takes this flight enjoys it. no offense to the flamers out there but give me a MAN. thanks

You can take this to the bank. I bet that anyone could get to Australia cheaper than this flight will be...always the gays have to pay more and especially if it is promoted by gays , no thanks. I'd just as soon be on a slow boat to anywhere, yaaah69

I think this is a great idea, we don't have to wait to land to start the party!
hotstuff Sep 20th 2007 3:58PM
Sorry, but a flame and Drag Queen are not the kind of men to play with! When you state flames, will tiny Tom Cruise and his drag lover, John Travolta be on board? Give us MEN on an airline to spend 14 hrs. with. We would than have a "ball" or two! lol

It sounds like alot of fun! I'm not gay but, my best friend is and he is the greatest person in the world. In reponse to the "gay haters", you think it's bad that they shove their life styles in our faces? Turn it around, we shove our life styles in their faces every day! Maybe some culture would do you some good!

Paul, you know why Hollywood portrays gay guys in such a female light, is because so many of them act that way! This also goes for lesbians, they walk around acting more manly than Paul Bunyon! If guys are gay, why do they act so feminine, the same for gay woman, why do they walk around looking and acting like men? It is not hard to spot either one, you could spot them from 100 yards! If you choose to go for the same sex, that is your cup of tea, but why make it so obvious to the public, then cry about the way you are portrayed in movies and on tv!

To:Paul Harris,
Lighten up. I agree with the typical sterotyping of Gays on TV etc. Will and Grace for example. But this is for the Sydney Mardi Gras. It's all for fun. Be happy that companies are becoming Gay Friendly! Also that they are open about it!

i think anyone who hates homosexuals are just afraid that they themselves might be gay or lesbian. i am a 19 year old female who is lesbian. and i think that all of the comments i have read are all pretty crazy. but i know that gays and lesbians are just like anyone else. i want to go to college wow so does a straight person. i want to get a job and wait dont heterosexuals have jobs. i want a family just a much as a straight person would. i just like it is stupid that people dont see that and they always have to judge someone by their sexuality instead of who they really are.
Michael Sep 20th 2007 4:18PM
Monca-no one is throwing it in your face. I believe that we all have CHOICES. YOU can choose not to take that flight!
Meech Sep 20th 2007 4:38PM
This is thoroughly disgusting. ilthy, immoral, rotten perverted PIGS. I hope the plane crashes - What is the airline thinking - they'll wind up with a bunch of drunk perverts having homo sex on the plane and who is going to control it? Let's just hope the plane crashes and the filthy Airline goes broke.
Terry Sep 20th 2007 4:37PM
I think it is great idea! Get all the butt punchers and muff eaters on a huge plane and shot that SOB down over the Pacific somewhere! I know of a few queers I would even but a ticket for!
Lady Di Sep 20th 2007 4:52PM
Oh please....I'm a Lesbian but this sounds too much for me, I would love to fly with "my peeps" and some films of our own...but please loose the stereotypes and such. I don't want to party on a jet...really now. I can wait until I get there. This is over the top. What do the airlines think of us anyway? Geeezzzzzzzz!
Lady Di Sep 20th 2007 4:57PM
To: CG jones: Thanks for reminding me to keep my gun. I have had a quarrel within my mind about keeping it. Now that I have been reading these bloggs I realize what a hateful world we live in. I agree with the young person who stated that one day all the old bigots will be dead and gone and a new generation will rise to free the nation of all of this hate. Thank God.
