Smoking Bans on Cruise Ships Cost Millions in Cancellations
Regent Seven Seas intends to tighten its smoking rules this December. Although not even in place yet, the plan to ban smoking in cabins and on balconies has already cost the company $3 million in cancellations. And Regent isn't the only cruise line pouring water on smokers' fires; Oceania Cruises implemented a zero-tolerance policy the same day a smoldering cigarette killed one person and ruined 79 cabins aboard the Star Princess last year.
On Regent's ships, cruisers can still light up where they're likely to spend money -- in the casino and in designated sections of bars.

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. THE DRUNK GROUP IS GOING TO HAVE THEM BAN DRINKING (THEY ALREADY DID IT ON THE BEACHES) THEN THEY ARE COMING AFTER WHAT IT IS YOU LIKE TO DO. THEY WANT TO CONTROL YOUR LIFE

I DON'T EVEN SMOKE AND I THINK THIS IS A STUPID IDEA.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH HAVING SMOKING AREAS? IF IT DOES NOT EFFECT YOU, WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? SOCIETY WANTS TO KEEP TELLING US HOW TO LIVE OUR OWN LIVES. WE KEEP LIMITING RIGHTS UNTIL THERE ARE NO MORE TO HAVE.
WHAT IS NEXT? NO MORE DRINKING COFFEE OR TEA BECAUSE IT MAY BURN THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU. NO MORE PERFUME BECAUSE IT MAKES ME SICK TO SIT NEAR YOU. NO MORE BUG
SPRAY BECAUSE I AM ALLERGIC. NO MORE CELL PHONES BECAUSE IT INTERFERES WITH MY PEACE AND QUIET. NO MORE CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY GIVE ME A HEADACHE. NO MORE CARS BECAUSE IT POLLUTES "MY AIR". NO MORE MUSIC BECAUSE IT'S NOT WHAT I LIKE. I SEE A TREND HERE! MAYBE THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT TO TELL EVERYONE WHAT TO DO SHOULD LOOK TO THE FUTURE! YOU ARE NEXT!!!

Some smokers just don't get it. When you are sitting next to me having a drink you are not affecting my health. That is the big difference in smoking. The last cruise I went on I could not even go in the casino or bar with my husband because of the smoke. I have asthma and I cannot breathe where there is any cigarette smoke. For me it is not just a matter of hating it, which I do - thanks to growing up in a home where both parents smoked - but it is a serious health risk for me. I get tired of hearing about "Smokers' Rights." Your rights stop before that smoke gets to my nose and you can't stop it from getting there if you are anywhere near me.
So don't go on a cruise with the lines that ban smoking. I'm sure there are still cruise lines that permit it. Those of us who hate smoking will be glad to fill up the berths on the non-smoking lines. You get the ornery Europeans, too.

My daughter & her husband went on a cruise for their honneymoon. Smoking was to be only on one side of the ship, and they knew to stay away from that side, the casinos and bars. She has severe asthma and smoke is the worst trigger for her. Unfortunately there were smokers smoking EVERYWHERE on board. Due to all the medication that she had to take because of being exposed to the smoke, she ended up w/a couple of heart attacks on ship. That is NOT the way to spend your honneymoon - in your cabin deathly sick and not able to enjoy the trip that they paid for and looked forward to for a year.
This has affected their lives for the past year, she has not been able to work, now, a year later her cardiologist has finally said that he doesn't want to see her for a month instead of every other week.
I don't believe smoking should be banned everywhere, but smokers should understand that their smoke can cause others to have SERIOUS health problems.
