Best National Park Lodges
If your vision of a vacation in a national park is more like an L.L. Bean catalog and less like National Lampoon's Vacation, then check out msnbc's list of the top 10 national park lodges. Forget the musty cabins, giant bugs, and cowboy coffee -- these lodges are all about organic meals, down comforters, and panoramic views from the comfort of your porch rocking chair.
A couple of the reviewed lodges are admittedly "rustic" (read: unattached bathroom), but these are still a far cry from canvas walls and sleeping bags.
So, break out the Pendleton blanket, stir up a steaming cup of cocoa, and enjoy your L.L. Bean vacation. Just watch out for bears.

I have stayed at 5 of these 10. Phantom Ranch ranks highest, because after a long day on a mule to get there, beer has never been so refreshing! Jenny Lake Lodge is surrounded by great hiking, Ahwahee, you can just sit and enjoy the view (great gift shops). Zion was a little disapointing, rather basic, but had no TV's which was great as I was there three days after 9-11, and having only a one page newspaper headline was great as we wanted to get away. (most of these lodges have no TV). Crater Lake lodge is a sentimental favorite, as my mother and father spent their honeymoon there in 1948.
Love you columns Catherine, see you next week!!
