Travel Warnings for Americans
Not that I regularly browse these kinds of Web sites but the U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Web site actually has some handy information, for example the countries for which Americans have visa requirements.
Among other things, they publish a list of countries with "travel warnings" for Americans. Those countries currently are:
- Afghanistan
- Algeria
- Chad
- Colombia
- Congo
- East Timor
- Eritrea
- Indonesia
- Iran
- Iraq
- Israel
- Kenya
- Lebanon
- Nepal
- Nigeria
- Pakistan
- Philippines
- Saudi Arabia
- Somalia
- Sudan
- Syria
- Uzbekistan
- Yemen
- France (just kidding)

Cass....I totally agree with you on Russia...!!! what (we) Americans were told was alot of BS...just as the Russian (people) were told about us "war mongering Americans" I have visited Russia three times in the past 5 years, made many friends, saw many wonderful sights, cities, villages, and ate and drank with the "people" who absolutely embraced me as a friend...as I did them. I attended parties, cook-outs, dances, and shared their culture...it changed my entire life, as well as my outlook on life....some of you ought to try it....you'll like it...

Kenya is a wonderful place to visit.. and I found the people there among the friendliest of anyplace I've ever been in the world. I went there in the middle of a travel advisory, and travelled VERY off the beaten path and had no problems whatsoever. Seems unfair, they are on the list largely because of problems in Somalia (it's northern neighbor), however it isn't affecting life in Kenya (I have many Kenyan friends, none of whom feel threatened by this).
About all the derogitory comments about many of these countries... for those that write these posts, have you actually BEEN to any of them?
And yes, knowing some basic phrases and customs DOES go far when traveling, it's a sign of cultural respect.
Kenya will be my next major trip again, warnings or no warnings!

"IGNORANCE REALLY IS BLISS"! I should NEVER be amazed when people make comments about things that know very little about (i.e.) life abroad - but I AM. How can anyone express an opinion about other nations without even leaving their yard?! I have traveled to many countries, experienced all types of cultures and had the pleasure of meeting many foreigners - I have been very fortunate and grateful... I love "my America" but we are a very young and ingnorant nation. I am an American by birth but a "WORLD CITIZEN" by choice...

I've been to Ireland twice, 30 days & 24 days, a yr. apart. Scheduling flight and B&B tour w/rental car beginning in May gives you off peak price w/beginning of peak season. A Hotel/ bus tour is a "living with home folk" trip, I chose to mix with locals, local used pubs gave you better food, atmosphere and comradery, also was given good flyfishing spots by B&B owners. Very friendly people...a little bit of heaven is EIRE
