Photo of the Day (7/18/07)

Nothing could possibly be more aggravating than having your trusty old land cruiser stop and break down on you when you're on your way to or from a surfing trip in Tanzania. However, considering the scenery, which looks filled with beautiful greens and yellows something suggests it may have made for a nice pit stop. Hopefully there was a mechanic in one of the vehicles because something also tells me they weren't too close to a repair shop. Only localsurfer would be able to fill us in on the details as this is his wonderful shot comes from his always awesome collection found in the Gadling Flickr pool.

Ah, well, what happened was...
After 200 miles odd of bouncing down the worlds most potholed and dusty tracks, we killed all the shocks and the starter motor stopped starting.
So we rang up the company we rented them from (amazing how in Africa you can get mobile phone reception even if you're right out in the bush), and they said they'd send a replacement.
Three hours later, a bloke turns up on a moped with another starter motor. We thought they meant a replacement JEEP...grr..
So, the replacement doesn't work either. Two hours later, the starter motor is in pieces on the the grounds. An hour after that, he's put it back together again - it still doesn't work. Off he goes on his moped, and we make camp for the night.
Next day, another jeep shows up. The other one is probably still somewhere in the wilds of Tanzania.
Tanzania is an awesome surf desitination, surprisingly - in the summer the swell from the southern ocean belts into it with 8000 miles of fetch behind it, onto perfect reef passes...and no-one else there.

Thanks for adding the details! Hopefully it didn't take away too much time from the surfing.
