Peak oil is a scam designed to create artificial scarcity and jack up prices.
Here is a link that you can cut and paste if you want to learn more about this:

Sweden:
Gas taxes 70%
Sales tax 26%
Income tax 32%
We pay ALOT of tax! But keep in mind that we have free education, free healthcare and all that. Even with all this tax the living stardards in Sweden is very high.

For what it may be worth to anyone. I myself needed to do something about the cost of gas. I remember in the mid - 70's when I was about 11 I had a neighbor who did some things to his engine and was able to get notably better gas mileage.
He had this huge Chrysler, that always stuck with me. I am not not much of a car person / gear head. I bought a product that helped my gas mileage. (I have a 91 Ford / Ranger pick up ) With the help of my dad we put it on my truck and my mileage went from a consent average of 22-24 to 35 mph I am very happy with results that is about a 30% increase to me that's a big wow !!!
I found the information at: http://killthegascar.wordpress.com There was a lot of information, however it was worth it to me. They were very good about answering e-mails as well , Mark

Just because gas prices (or anything else for that matter) are higher in other countries, so what, they are lower in other countries too. Take away the huge government taxes, and restrictions, and open drilling in closed areas, and watch the prices come down.

A person living in China who can afford to buy a car can also afford their high gas prices!

You must come to visit us in Venezuela because when we buy a car we dont ask how much Km/per Liter, we ask how many times we must go to the gas station in one week, because we pay less than 12US Cts. per galllon and Diesel is close to be free of charge, its less than 5cts. per gallon. We still have old gasguzzling cars from the 70ies and a lot of new american cars assembled in our country. The only problem ist that there are to many cars on the highways that is better to take the subway in Caracas or to make a healthy walk.

I'm sorry but i can't take this any more. if you do not like the way of living in America then do something about it. The government is there for the people not the other way around. I am not American and really don't have many American friends but i do know this, if something is wrong then as a group of people you should fix it.
Tom Grady Apr 30th 2008 1:18AM
Gohd....... why is "ourman" and idiot????? seriously all he is saying is that you guys have to stop sitting on your a**es and do something about your government! he is not an idiot..... you guys are I'm sorry to say it but you are idiots.
DO SOMETHING TO MAKE A F*****G DIFFERENCE!

I live in Brisbane, Australia and this last month the price of petrol has skyrocketed.
At the beginning of this year diesel fuel was at a stable price of around A$1.13 a litre... it used to be far cheaper than petrol, which was around A$1.30 a litre or so.
The price of diesel is now nearly $1.80 and the cheapest I have seen it anywhere is $1.69. In early may this year I record seeing diesel at $1.49, then the next week it was $1.58, then $1.69 and now $1.80. It is getting out of hand. Whats more is that Caltex has also actually fully ran out of diesel in some places, so it is going to jump further.
As for ordinary petrol, it has passed the $1.50 per litre mark and is heading towards $1.60 in the next month or so. People in the know are expecting it to have reached $2 a litre by the end of the year, and diesel like $2.20 or so.
We traded in our petrol guzzeling 4WD last year to get a diesel Mazda 6, and at the time we were saving heaps from using less petrol and also diesel being cheaper. Now it is costing us more now than it did then in petrol.
So if you think ordinary petrol is expensive, just take a look at how high diesel has jumped to.

Max Headroom,
Your wrong part of the planet is the right part for most people. Luckily!! And this unilateral power is going to an end with the uprising of China and Japan in say... less than 10 years. :p
Tony Collis Jun 12th 2008 4:56AM
I'm also from Brisbane, Australia and unleaded petrol (gas for you North Americanos) hit $6 a gallon here today ($1.50 per liter). About $1.80 of that $6 is federal fuel tax.
TS Jun 24th 2008 8:39AM
And what is the price a year later?
Oslo can brag with around $9 pr gallon. Any higher?
Robert Jul 12th 2008 10:26AM
It's profoundly stupid to express prices in units that only one in 20 people understand. Why units of 3.6 litres? Who the h*** measure anything in units of 3.6 litres?
jacko Oct 13th 2008 6:32PM
you cant say your that big in america, down here in australia its nothing to drive 80 clicks to work where im from, and we still pay more in fuel costs, and we dont all drive F250s either, look at the stats, you use a large portion of energy in relation to your population...
melissa May 14th 2009 3:15PM
Ok..Im american. I remember only 20 years ago in high school we paid only .89 per gallon. My wages was 4 hr. So we were no better off then than we are today. I agree with the author about the obvious high price of fuel around the world and I think its time that we find alternative fuel ..like hydrogen fuel...which you can make from water, plants. The central powers that be are willing but still want to use only the fossil base fuels for this which would defeat the purpose in helping life on earth. I researched the Petroleum Industry and found that if Americans knew that their being monoplized and used by foreign powers we would boycott those gas stations altogether. BP and SHELL! Standard oil of Ohio which was founded by John D. Rockefeller, Im a fellow Ohioian, was taken over by BP -British Petroleum. They have merged with the Dutch and own refinaries in Iran. There are now four major oil companies, ExxonMobil, Chevron-Texaco, BP - Amoco-Arco-Shell. Connoco-Phillips and Total-Fina-Elf have joined the petroleum empire. Visit http://www.waterpoweredcar.com - WAKE UP AMERICA--wake up world!!! Yes we are too wraped up in our anger and blame instead of taking action of a few major elites that want to rule the world through economics!

OURMAN,
Before you comment a snotty remark, why don't you remember that it was US the AMERICANS that invented the internet? Let me also point out that most websites are from AMERICA. So, yes maybe other people may be reading it, but on websites that ARE MADE IN AMERICA you should just let it slip by when they are talking TO AMERICANS.
