U.S. Cities With the Worst Traffic Are ...
The U.S. Department of Transportation has recently announced nine of the most congested U.S. cities which are in the running to obtain federal traffic-fighting aid.Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Miami, New York City, San Diego, San Francisco, and Seattle where the nine semifinalists, with a "winner" set to be announced in August. The winning city will receive $1.1 billion in federal program aid designed to fight traffic using "levy tolls that vary based on traffic volumes," and new mass-transit options for residents.
I thought Los Angeles would be on the list for sure. [via]

Atlanta, yes, it gets badd..but in D.C, geezz, you can't move a foot..IT"S HORRRIBLE!!! I drive through Atlanta and its backed up but not like in D.C where you just dont sit. The traffic moves freely with both of the six lanes they have backed up. It's finee., but yes, it's very tireing!
Heres my list of Worst Cities dealing w/ Traffic:
1. DC
2. NYC
3. LA
4. SF/Bay Area
5. Houston
6. Chicago
7. Miami
8. Dallas
9 ATL
10.San Diego

I agree with many of the people on here!
I really honestly believe you people in Seattle and Atlanta when you say that you have the absolute worst, your roads are horrible, and your traffic is bad, but I have to agree that LA and DC are just in a different league.
The population bases around these two cities are immense compared to other cities. The infrastructure was developed for millions of less people, and hasn't improved.
Specifics I can't give around LA as I've only been there half a dozen times and experienced that nightmare (which I do think is worse than DC). I've lived in DC/Baltimore area now for a while, and as a man I can say that I have been brought to tears before.
95/495 N, 270/495, 295/495, 395/495/95, and 66, the worst nightmare in the entire world.
I think the large difference is that in Atlanta and Seattle and other cities with major traffic problems, the traffic hits hard and fast, and is extremely heavy. I know in DC the problem is that you have an immense workforce coming into the city and leaving the city at varying times.
Most of the government is on flex time, and therefore rush hour starts at 4:30 a.m. and goes till 10:30 a.m., starts back up at 2:30 a.m. and lasts till 8 p.m. In between this is constant construction, which is true in most cities.
Anyone remember 3 years ago when they shut 495 down to one lane around 270 every night? Yes, I loved sitting in 4 hours of traffic at 1 a.m.
Then on weekends DC is the number one tourist attraction behind NYC. Luckily there are signs of improvement. DC has over the past decade improved "The Mixing Bowl" - the highway interchange of 8 highways that has killed more motorists than any highway interchange in America. Also being built is the county crosshighway on the Maryland side, and talks have begun for a pay for drive on the beltway.
As always, 66 will forever remain horrible with no improvement plans. Have fun Virginians commuting!

I think Norfolk/Hampton Roads, VA should be on that list. The traffic can flowing but when one person hits the brakes on the freeway, it causes a big backup. Dont forget are underwater tunnels, only 2 lanes going one way and during rush hour can back up for like 7 hours.
