Internet Everywhere with AutoNet Mobile

Want to connect to the Internet from virtually anywhere? AutoNet Mobile, a California company, has developed the first "Always-On Broadband Internet service for cars."

$399 will get you the car-based router, and an unlimited data plan costs $49.95 a month. You can get an Internet signal virtually anywhere in the country, save for bits of the empty interior and a lot of West Virginia.

If you don't want to pony up that much dough, car rental giant AVIS has announced they are partnering with AutoNet Mobile to offer the service with your rental car for an extra $11 a day.

Stand-alone routers will ship late Summer '07, and you can pre-order one now.
