10 Worst Cities to Visit/10 Best Cities to Visit
Of course, no one wants to waste their time and money traveling to a crummy destination. In an effort to help you steer clear of those crummy destinations, Road Junky put together a list of what they consider to be the 10 worst cities in the world to visit. In no particular order, they are:
Mumbai- Dubai
- Liverpool & Manchester
- Any American Suburb
- Guatemala City
- Sao Paulo
- Beijing
- Singapore
- Milan
- Cancun
Weird. I always wanted to visit Bombay (or Mumbai, as it's now called). And Ember seems to be having a great time in Beijing, so I guess the list is colored by Road Junky's perceptions -- which is, of course, totally acceptable. Personally, I hope I never make it back to Harare. Or Bulawayo. So depressing.
Rather than simply mention the dregs and not point out the shining stars of world travel, here's Travel + Leisure's list of what they consider to be the 10 best cities in the world to visit. In no particular order, they are:
- Florence
- Rome
- Bangkok
- Sydney
- Chiang Mai, Thailand
- Cape Town
- Buenos Aires
- New York
- Beirut*
- San Francisco
I've spent several weeks in Cape Town, and if I could retire this weekend, I'd move there and start a weekly "What's Going On About Town" newspaper. I love that place. In my opinion, other great cities to travel to include Amsterdam (easy to navigate); Cairo (Culture! History!); and Key West (F-U-N).
Nevertheless, if you think T+L's list stinks, check out Cool Town Studios for their regional run-down of the world's best cities to visit or peep National Geographic Traveler's Top Urban Places.
* T+L's list was selected prior to the war in Lebanon.

well i am surprised that among hong kong, paris, stockholm and geneva ; none were among your best. and i also would like to point out that the worst cities list surely is based on impossible criteria. just as every city might have drawbacks, every city has it's USP. that USP must have only been considered. wat abt NYC's crime rate or bangkok's pollution or rome's traffic. was that considered? i don think so. have the same set of parameters for both worst and best cities and then decide the list which anyway is totally superflous as everyone has their own leanings anyway....

Any American Suburb? Yikes! Is that prejudice at its worst or what?

Belize city. Sure the ocean is fab and the jungle cool but the country actually has nothing else. The people there are trying to steal the music from Jamaica. The people are ugly. Miss Universe will never come from Belize. The men dress in rags and don't care. The money is 2 to 1 American dollar and that is a rip off.

I asked 17 of my world travler friends and every one nominatet the Big Apple as the garbage dump of the civilized world.
Dirty, crowded, nasty people, ridiculouse prices, bad food unless your rich, Ah rich they can live anywere, New York gives them the oppourtunity to look down on decent people.
THE GOOD, ACTUALLY GREAT, THE COPS.
Will not tell you my best city. The New Yorkers would probably move there and ruin it. Happy travels BRiAN

Manchester? Liverpool? Dubai? Why? I'm sorry I would much rather go to any of these cities than New York or San Francisco... I live just outside of SF and there are only a few good things to do, its not "smelly" as one person said it was... maybe they just aren't used to salt water or the ocean? and whats wrong with Guatemala City? I've personally lived there for 2 months and loved it and I'm as white as can be, sure its not the greatest city but thats why I like it... its got some rough patches but people were nice enough for the most part. People have to live a little go places you wouldn't ever think of going or somewhere thats considered "dangerous".
Oh and for people who do decide to visit Guatemala City... don't dress like a tourist, thats just telling people you want to get robbed nor should you wear jewelry. Light casual clothes are all you need :)

Mumbai?? as one of the worst cities in the world... Man, is this some kind of a joke book???. am definitely sure that this list is total bullshit. The author nor the voters (if any) have any clue what they are talking about.
You have to be kidding to make that kind of a statement about Mumbai. Feel very sorry to know there are some senseless idiots doing some kind of a nonsensical survey that misguides a lot of other people. Trust me... Just take a print of this list .. it will serve as great toilet paper
