BTW, on other notes it sounds like not much has changed in ten years. The air has always been bad, although the vast increase in automobile traffic has not helped. Live for those afternoon rains in the summer, and the evenings when the wind comes in and brings fresh air down from the sky. Nonetheless that coal-scented smell will acquire the dearness of familiarity, a friendly reminder of the strange and wonderful city you find yourself in.
And the outskirts of town with all of those Aspens (or Aspen-like trees, anyway) on the way to the Great Wall have always been nice. Enjoy while you can, as someday that will all be filled in with the likes of your photos!
