The Chork: Chopsticks + Fork Fusion

Meet the Chork, a fork-chopstick hybrid food gadget, like the spork, or the Futter. This is perfect for those times when you want to use chopsticks but don't really know how, but still want the luxury of wood pressing against your lips as you shovel food into your mouth. That was always my problem with chopsticks. I'm American, I like to eat my meals in 2 minutes or less, and that's just not possible with chopsticks. These are perfect though. Thanks, Slashfood!

Pretty soon we'll be hearing news reports that sound like.. "The man was said to have been stabbed in the leg with a ... chork? The offender appenently did not like his critisising comments about the chopstick-like utensil he was using to eat his rice-a-roni..."
--- Do they get dull? Being made of wood you'd think after being washed and hit on plates and such they'd lose their forkly powers...

It's certainly possible for Americans to eat quickly and efficiently with chopsticks. I'm an American and do so on a regular basis.
My wife, who is not even a Chinese-American, can do the same. It just takes a proper lesson or two and then ample practice. Eventually you'll be able to pick up marbles with plastic chopsticks, no problem.

Ash: If they get blunt, you can whittle them! It's the American Way ;)

Eating with chopsticks is much better than eating with a fork. You just need to learn how to use chopsticks, that's all!

If chopsticks were easier to learn we would not have to learn how to use them.

I should point out that the proper way to shovel food into the stomach the Chinese way is you hold the bowl of rice/food with your left hand, hold it close to your mouth , as you twirl/rotate the bowl, you simply rake/pull the food/rice towards your mouth with the right hand. You can essentially eat a bowl of food in minutes. Now, you wouldn't eat this way with guests but at home or with casual friends - it's not considered too abnormal. They might mock you're hungry but hey with casual, that's not even the 100th worse thing they've said, right?

Those things look silly! LOL. Hey move to Asia and you learn to use chopsticks fast. The first time I ate noodles with chopsticks I knew I had them conquered! Oh not every Asian country uses chopsticks. In Thailand you use a fork and spoon. You actually use the fork to put the food on the spoon. Thais consider it rude to eat your food from the fork!

People in Thailand use chopsticks when eating noodle soup, which is quite often. This is the same as in Malaysia and Singapore. In Indonesia chopsticks are genuinely rare.
The thing with the fork and spoon (spoon goes into your mouth, eating directly off the fork is seen as weird) is common to all of Southeast Asia.

I can eat equally well with both chopsticks and a spoon. Although if I really want to shovel it in I'd use a spoon.

I prefer using a spoon to chopsticks, but either doesn't bother me ^_^
